Police Report: June 3-9

June 9^th:

4000 block of 37^th Street: Residential burglary – 10:15am. Officers met with the home owner who said that the residence was recently vacated by a former tenant and that no one should be inside. The officers learned that the rear door glass had been broken out and someone had entered the house. With the assistance of officers from the Hyattsville City Police the house was searched and found to be vacant, however officers did locate two bags containing personal items. Officers were approached by a witness who pointed out a man who was walking down the street and said that it was he who had been inside the residence. The man was detained and the officers learned that the bags found in the house belonged to him. He was arrested, charged with burglary and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Criminal citation – 7:35pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for disorderly conduct.

June 8^th:

4000 block of Cedar Lane: Strong arm robbery – 11:45pm. The victim, through and interpreter, told officers that he was walking home when he was attacked by two men who punched him in the head knocking him to the ground. One of the men went through the victim’s pockets and stole his wallet, cell phone and cash before both fled the scene down Cedar Lane Alley Bunker Hill Road. After the attack the victim, who was bleeding from his ear and had abrasions on his arm, went home. At about the next morning he called police to report the incident. PGPD robbery detectives responded and met MRPD officers and the victim in the alley where the crime occurred. The victim provided a statement to detectives who assumed the follow-up investigation.

June 7^th:

2200 block of Varnum Street (New Horizon Church): Vandalism – 9:45am. Representatives of the church told officers that sometime prior to their call to police they discovered that someone attempted to dismantle part of one of the large roof mounted air conditioner units. Officers examined the unit and agreed that it had been tampered with, however based on the officers’ observations it is believed that the damage was not done recently.

3700 block of 36^th Street: Missing person (returned) – 9:50am. The parents of the 14 year old male reported missing on June 5^th reported that their son had been located at an address in Riverdale Park. The juvenile’s information was removed from NCIC missing persons files.

2900 block of Arundel Road: Vandalism to auto – 2pm. The owner of a 1991 Ford van told officers that sometime between 8pm on June 5^th and the time he called police someone smashed his front windshield with a rock.

3000 block of Queens Chapel Road: Warrant arrest – 4:40pm. Officers responded for the report of several individuals loitering and possibly involved in narcotics trafficking. When the officers arrived they stopped three individuals for a field interview. Further investigation revealed that one of the three had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for violation of probation on a PWID conviction. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. The remaining two were released and sent on their way. 

4100 block of 31^st Street: Residential burglary – 11:55pm. The resident told officers that he had been away from his residence since May 21^st. When he returned this evening he discovered that during his absence someone forced entry into his home through a side entrance. Once inside the thieves ransacked the home and stole several items of his personal property.

June 6^th:

2700 block of Allison Street: CDS possession – 3:30pm. Officers stopped a 2003 Lincoln Town car for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver was in possession of marijuana. He was arrested, charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. His vehicle was impounded for safekeeping.

2200 block of Varnum Street: Disorderly conduct – 11pm. Officers patrolling the area spotted a suspicious person running behind a business into a dark corner. When the officers illuminated the man they saw that he was about to urinate in public. He immediately became hostile towards the officers and started screaming and cursing. When the officers tried to calm the man down he refused and took up an aggressive fighting stance. Continued efforts to get the man to control himself were unsuccessful and he was eventually arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. 

June 5^th:

3700 block of 36^th Street: Missing person – 11:45am. The parents of a 14 year old male juvenile told officers that their son climbed out of his bedroom window and ran across his neighbor’s yard to escape his mother. The parents said that the juvenile had done this before and was gone from home for a period of three days. The juvenile’s information was entered into NCIC missing persons files.

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Criminal citation – 12:20pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking an alcoholic beverage in public.

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Strong arm robbery – 12:35pm. The victim told officers that he had just made a purchase at Chuck’s Liquors and was walking towards the bus stop. As he was walking an unidentified man came up behind him, snatched his wallet out of his right hand and fled the area. The victim did not get a description of the suspect and he was not injured.

June 4^th:

2800 block of Upshur Street: Theft from auto – 2:40pm. The owner of a 1999 Honda Accord told officers that sometime between 1am and the time he called police someone stole a radio out of his vehicle. He said that he was not able to secure his vehicle due to a broken lock on the driver’s side door.

June 3^rd:

4300 block of Russell Avenue: Domestic – 4:45am. Officers responded for the report of a domestic dispute. When they arrived they discovered a male and a female arguing in the laundry room area of the building. It appeared that the couple had been involved in a verbal altercation that was escalating. The female half of the argument chose to leave the residence for the evening and officers assisted her with transportation. Officers then documented the incident due to ongoing problems with the male half.

4300 block of Russell Avenue: Domestic – 1:20pm. Officers responded for the report of a domestic dispute. When they arrived they learned that the reporting person’s ex-husband came to her residence while visiting from out of town. While at the residence he became angry and disorderly. When the woman asked him to leave he refused and physically assaulted the woman and one of his daughters. He then fled the location when police were called. Officers are in the process of obtaining a warrant for the man’s arrest.

3300 block of Queens Chapel Road: Motor vehicle collision – 7:10pm. Officers investigated a single vehicle collision and learned that a 2011 Chevy Silverado was traveling north on Queens Chapel Road at a high rate of speed. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a pole. The vehicle was disabled from the accident.
