Police Report: September 16-22

September 22nd:

Taylor Street and Russell Avenue: Attempt vehicle theft – 3am. Officers patrolling the area observed three individuals flee the area on foot when the officers approached. Further investigation revealed that the three had broken into a 2000 Honda Civic and had defeated the ignition before the officers interrupted them. Officers pursued the suspects on foot into a wooded area where they made good their escape. The owner of the vehicle was notified and responded to the scene to take charge of his vehicle.

4000 block of 34th Street: Vehicle impound – 12:15pm. Officers responded for the report of an illegally parked vehicle. When they arrived they found a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder blocking the entrance to a driveway. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle’s registration had expired in December of 2011. The vehicle was issued the appropriate parking citations and impounded.

September 21st:

3200 block of Queens Chapel Road: Traffic/vehicle impound – 11:05am. Officers stopped a 1995 Nissan Quest for an equipment violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver did not have a driver’s license. The vehicle was impounded and the driver issued the appropriate traffic citations.

September 20th:

27th and Allison Streets: Stolen auto – 4:25pm. The owner of a 2002 Acura reported that earlier he was awakened by the sound of a tow truck. When he looked outside he saw the unidentified tow truck towing his car away. The owner said that there was no justifiable reason his car would have been towed as it was legally parked, paid off and had no liens attached.

September 19th:

3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Criminal citation – 11:25pm. Officers on bicycle patrol observed a man urinating in public. He was issued a criminal citation for the violation and sent on his way.

September 18th:

Nothing significant to report.

September 17th:

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Theft (supplement) – 2:40pm. The owner of the 21” gray and orange Schwinn bicycle who reported his bike stolen on the 15th came into the police station and told officers that he found his bike in the 4000 block of Utah Street in Brentwood.

Arundel Road and Russell Avenue: Motor vehicle collision (MVC) – 6:45am. Officers documented a MVC that occurred between a 2001 Mazda and a 2002 Ford Escape. Neither driver was seriously injured. Both vehicles were inoperable after the crash and had to be towed from the scene.

4100 block of Russell Avenue: Residential burglary – 5:25pm. The resident/victim told officers that he locked his apartment when he left at about 11:30 this morning. When he returned he discovered that someone had pried open the front door, ransacked the apartment and stole several items of his personal property.

4100 block of Russell Avenue: Residential burglary – 6:05pm. The resident/victim told officers that she locked her apartment when she left at about 5:45 this morning. When she returned she discovered that someone had kicked open the front door, ransacked the apartment and stole several items of her personal property. The victim’s apartment is directly across the hall from the apartment that was reported burglarized about a half hour earlier. Officers determined that both crimes are related but no evidence was recovered at either scene.

3700 block of 35th Street: Warrant service – 10:15pm. Officers patrolling the area observed an individual known to them to have an open arrest warrant. Officers stopped the man, verified the warrant, arrested him and delivered him to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

28th Place and Upshur Street: Motor vehicle collision (MVC) – 10:20pm. Officers documented a collision between a Metro bus and an unoccupied parked 1996 Buick sedan. The owner of the Buick was located and advised of the collision.

September 16th:

3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Criminal citation – 2:50am. Officers on bicycle patrol issued a man a criminal citation for possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage in public.

3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Criminal citation – 3:45am. Officers on bicycle patrol issued a man a criminal citation for urinating in public. 

3200 block of Taylor Street: Theft – 10:20pm. The resident told officers that he left his residence at about 3pm on Friday the 14th and when he returned today he discovered that his computer was missing from his room. The resident said that he lives with several members of Occupy DC and that they are in the process of being evicted. There were no signs of forced entry into the victim’s private space and a canvass of the area uncovered no evidence.

These kiosks can contain concealed computers that attempt to extract data such as contact information, photos, and videos from connected devices, unbeknownst to the users. Additionally, malicious or compromised charging stations can expose devices to the risk of a malware infection. Police Report: May 8-11

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi
