Good News from State's Attorney Alsobrooks

In this week’s “The Prosecutor” newsletter, Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks reported on the trial of two men charged in the 2011 slaying of Alonzo Guyton in the Kaywood Gardens Apartments here in Mount Rainier. Many thanks to Ms. Alsobrooks and her staff for getting these killers off our streets; and thanks also to the Prince George’s County police homicide detectives who identified and arrested them!

From Ms. Alsobrooks:

You may recall the 2011 murder of Howard University student, Alonzo Guyton. 20-year old Michael Jordan and 22-year old William Knight were on trial in connection with his death. Jordan was found guilty of the first degree felony murder and William Knight was found guilty of robbery, theft and related charges for his role in Guyton's death.

Guyton was walking to a friend's house in Mt. Rainer when he was approached by Lorenzo Carlton, who was attempting to rob him at gun point. When Guyton got into a struggle with Carlton, Knight announced that Guyton was fighting back and that Carlton needed help. Jordan then exited the vehicle they were in, armed with an SKS assault rifle and shot Guyton multiple times.

Mr. Guyton was a Marine and a college student who clearly had a bright future in front of him and Knight and Jordan robbed him of that. As a result, we have removed them from our streets and our citizens are safer for it.

Sentencing is scheduled for March 20, 2013. Jordan faces a maximum sentence of life plus 35 years. Knight faces a maximum sentence of 35-38 years. Carlton previously pled guilty to 2nd degree murder and related charges. He is scheduled to be sentenced on February 28, 2013 and will receive a sentence of 70 years suspend all but 35.”
