Police Report: June 21-27

The Mount Rainier Police Department’s weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. June 27 th : 3100 block of Chillum Road (7-11) : Theft – 12:15am. Officers learned that a large party had just been broken up in Hyattsville. The group walked to the 7-11, entered the business and started selecting merchandise. All the suspects fled the store without making any attempt to pay for the merchandise. 3100 block of Webster Street : Property damage – 5:30pm. The owner of a 2006 Mercury told officers that a tree in the tree box fell on his vehicle during a severe storm. Public Works was notified to assist in removing the tree. Potential Geomagnetic Storm Wednesday (6-24) Afternoon

A severe geomagnetic storm sparked by a solar flare swept the Earth Monday and a second is forecast to strike late Wednesday afternoon. The impact has the potential to be worldwide -- everything from power being disrupted to radios blacking out to global positioning systems going a little off-course. Monday's event, which was still winding down Tuesday, doesn't seem to have caused any failures or forced planes to reroute, according to industry statements. It registered as a G4 storm on the U.S. Space Weather Prediction Center's five-step geomagnetic storm scale and touched off auroras that were visible across northern Asia, Europe and parts of Canada and the United States. A G5 storm could be a catastrophic event, with the complete collapse of some power grids, satellite navigation disrupted for days and "hundreds of amps" of current in pipelines. City of Mount Rainier Interim City Manager Position

Police Report: June 14-20

June 20 th : 2500 block of Allison Street : Property damage – 8:50pm. A witness reported that she saw a black male about 9-11 years of age break a window of an apartment and then flee on foot. Officers searched the area for the kid with negative results. The property office was contacted so that maintenance could respond and secure the window. 3300 block of Chauncey Place : Property damage – 9:50pm. Officers spoke with apartment security personnel who, while patrolling the area, discovered that someone had shattered the glass out of an apartment door. No evidence was recovered and m

Police Report: June 7-13

June 13 th : Nothing significant to report. June 12 th : 4200 block of 34 th Street: Death – 12:20pm. Officers responded to Washington Adventist Hospital for a death report. The officers learned that EMS personnel responded for an unresponsive man and immediately transported him to the hospital where he later died.  The cause of death was not immediately apparent however the man was suffering from medical problems and was found to have a laceration to his forehead. PGPD homicide and the coroner’s office responded and are conducting their own investigation into the cause of death. One

Police Report: May 31 - June 6

June 6 th : 3200 block of Bunker Hill Road : Landlord/tenant dispute – 10:35am. Officers met with the property owner who wanted to report several tenants who had broken two kitchen cabinets and have not paid any rent. The landlord was advised to file for evictions and to seek civil reimbursement for the damage caused by his tenants.   3200 block of Perry Street : Theft from auto – 6:10pm. The owner of a 2010 Toyota reported that he came out to his vehicle and discovered the rear driver’s side passenger window smashed out and his computer bag missing. June 5 th : 4600 block of 27 th

Police Report: May 24-30

May 30 th : 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : Criminal citation – 7:30pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking in public. May 29 th : 4500 block of 32 nd Street : Sexual assault – 12:15am. Officers took a report of a possible sexual assault involving a juvenile. The case has been referred to PGPD sexual assault investigators. 4500 block of Eastern Avenue : Theft from auto – 8:15am. The victim told officers that she left her purse on the front passenger seat while pumping gas.  A 2-door silver vehicle pulled up nest to the victim’s vehicle and a block male got o
