Police report: July 12-18

The Mount Rainier Police Department’s weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. Some reports may be outside the date parameters due to extended investigations or other circumstances. Some cases are not included at all due to ongoing investigations. July 18 th : 34 th Street and Rhode Island Avenue : M/V collision – 1:15am. Officers observed a 2000 Nissan travelling north on Rhode Island Avenue at a high rate of speed. When the vehicle entered the traffic circle the driver lost control and struck the curb of the traffic circle causing disabling damage to the vehicle. The vehicle’s air bags deployed so the driver was not injured. Officers discovered an open container of an alcoholic beverage in the center console and that the driver had a suspended license. In June 2015, 9 U.S. law enforcement officers tragically lost their lives in the line-of-duty, bringing the year-to-date total to 63. The average age of those killed in June was 39, and the average tour of duty was approximately 20 years on-the-job. Two officers had less than 2 years of experience on-the-job, and both were killed in vehicle-related incidents. Even with the untimely deaths of these two young officers, the fact that the average age of those killed in June was 39 and the average tour of duty was roughly 20 years demonstrates that seasoned officers continue to be vulnerable while on-duty.

Police Report: July 5-11

The Mount Rainier Police Department’s weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. July 11 th : Chillum Road and Queens Chapel Road : Warrant service – 1:55am. Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver had an outstanding warrant through Prince George’s County for driving without a license. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 3000 block of Arundel Road : MIR – 1:05pm. Officers responded for the report of unattended children walking outside near the Mount Rainier Nature Center. The officers located the children and learned that they were 4 years old and 7 years ol

Police Report: June 28 - July 4

The Mount Rainier Police Department’s weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. Some reports may be outside the date parameters due to extended investigations or other circumstances. Some cases are not included at all due to ongoing investigations. July 4 th : 3100 block of Arundel Road : Traffic – 9:20pm. Officers stopped a 2005 Nissan for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle’s tags were expired, the driver did not have a license and there were open alcoholic beverage containers in the vehicle’s center console. The driver was issued several citations and the vehicle was impounded. 4500 block of 32 nd Street : Vandalism – 9:35pm. The resident told officers that he was watching TV when he heard a loud explosion in front of his house. When he went to investigate he discovered that someone had thr
