In order to implement the final phase of installing the new emergency generator, PEPCO will be shutting down the power to the police station tomorrow morning starting at 7am. To facilitate PEPCO’s work and to ensure critical systems are not damaged by the power outage the station will be closed from 5pm today until Monday morning at about 10am.  I apologize for any inconvenience.

September 22 nd : Taylor Street and Russell Avenue : Attempt vehicle theft – 3am. Officers patrolling the area observed three individuals flee the area on foot when the officers approached. Further investigation revealed that the three had broken into a 2000 Honda Civic and had defeated the ignition before the officers interrupted them. Officers pursued the suspects on foot into a wooded area where they made good their escape. The owner of the vehicle was notified and responded to the scene to take charge of his vehicle. 4000 block of 34 th Street : Vehicle impound – 12:15pm. Officers responded for the report of an illegally parked vehicle. When they arrived they found a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder blocking the entrance to a driveway. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle’s registration had expired in December of 2011. The vehicle was issued the appropriate parking citations and impounded. You're looking at over 20 pounds of CDS with a street value in excess of $20,000 seized by Mount Rainier PD officers over the past few years. No longer needed as evidence, the CDS was delivered to a private incinerator in Baltimore for destruction today.

September 15 th : 3200 block of Queens Chapel Road : Hit and run collision – 7am. The victim in this case told officers that she was stopped at the traffic light at Queens Chapel and Chillum when a Ford F150 struck her driver’s side bumper and knocked the driver’s side mirror off her car. The striking vehicle fled the scene without stopping. Officers searched the area and found the truck and its driver. The driver was found to not have a driver’s license and was not the registered owner of the truck. He was issued several traffic citations and released. The truck was impounded for safekeeping. 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : Theft – 1:45pm. The owner of a 21” gray and orange Schwinn bicycle told officers that he left his bike unattended while he went into Chuck’s Liquors. When he returned about 5 minutes later he discovered that his bike had been stolen. A search of the area for the bike proved negative. September 14 th : 3100 block of Que...

September 8 th : 3500 block of Perry Street : Emergency petition – 4pm. Officers responded for the report of a man hallucinating. They were able to locate the man who was standing on the porch of a private residence with his pants down making threatening remarks and probably under the influence of PCP. Officers were able to take the man into custody safely and transport him to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment.  4600 block of 29 th Street : CDS possession – 7:20pm. Officers stopped a 2001 Chevy Tahoe for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver did not have a valid driver’s license and was in possession of marijuana. She was arrested, charged with CDS possession and various traffic offenses and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. On October 1st a new law governing a driver's actions when approaching an intersection with a non-functioning traffic signal goes into effect. Drivers will be required to stop at a clearly marked stop line; before entering a crosswalk; or before entering the intersection. Fines for violating the new law are stiff: $90 and 2 points if the violation does not cause a crash and $130 and 3 points if the violation contributes to a crash. 4100 block of 34 th Street : Armed carjacking – 8:05pm. Officers were called to the area for the report of a carjacking that had just occurred. When the officers arrived they interviewed the victim and learned that she was sitting in her 2006 BMW in the parking lot of St. John’s Church when she saw a newer model blue Dodge Caravan occupied by at least two subjects enter the parking lot. One of the subjects, she described as a short black male wearing a black ski mask and all black clothing, approached the victim, pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at her and ordered her out of her car. When the victim got out of her car the man tried to search her for valuables. The victim resisted and got into a struggle with him. As she struggled with the first man, a second man she described as a black male, much larger than the first and wearing a black ski mask and all black clothing picked her up and threw her into a fence. September 1 st : 3200 block of Chillum Road : Theft from auto – 5pm. The owner of a 1997 Ford Escort told officers that sometime between twelve noon on August 27 th and the time she called police someone stole the rear tag off her vehicle. 3500 block of Newton Street : Criminal citation (x2) – 10:10pm. Officers issued each of two men a criminal citation for possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage in a public place. August 31 st : 4100 block of 28 th Street : Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle – 1:30am. At about 1pm on August 30 th officers assisted the owner of a 2006 Toyota Tundra in obtaining an arrest warrant for the individual to whom she lent the vehicle on July 27 th and who had not returned it. At about 4am this morning, PGPD patrol officers located the vehicle in the 6700 block of Kennedy Street in Hyattsville. August 25 th : 3300 block of Chauncey Place : Vehicle impound – 12:45pm. Officers patrolling with a mobile license plate reader received a notification that the tags on a Mazda were suspended. However, the tags were displayed on a 2003 Dodge Durango. The Dodge was unregistered so it was impounded and the tags were seized for return to MVA. 4000 block of 34 th Street : Trespassing – 2:05pm. Officers responded for the report of a disorderly subject at ZZ Pizza. When the officers arrived they detained the highly intoxicated subject and learned that he had entered the restaurant and demanded food. They also learned that the owners had previously banned him from the restaurant. He was arrested, charged with trespassing and delivered to the custody of DOC in Upper Marlboro. 3200 block of Queenstown Drive : Traffic/vehicle impound – 9:50pm. On October 1, 2012, new Maryland vehicle laws will take effect that require all motor scooters and mopeds to be titled and insured, while all operators and passengers must wear a helmet and eye protection. These new requirements are in addition to the existing law that requires all motor scooter and moped operators to possess a valid driver’s license or a moped operator’s permit. August 18 th : 33 rd and Shepherd Streets : Citizen robbery – 1:30am. A man came into the police station to report that he had been robbed. The man told officers that he was walking home when he was approached by four black males who grabbed him. Three of the males assaulted the victim while the fourth man went through his pockets and stole several items of his personal property. The four then fled the scene on 33 rd Street towards Bunker Hill Road. The victim said that he could positively identify his assailants should he see them again. PGPD robbery detectives responded to take the victim’s statement and start a follow-up investigation. 3300 block of Chillum Road (7-11) : Citizen robbery – 4:30am. The victim told officers that she accepted a ride home from two acquaintances when she left her job. They made a brief stop at the 7-11 and as the victim was leaving the store she was approached by two Hispanic males who grabbed her by the neck and stole her necklace. O...

The owner of a 1996 Honda Civic reported that sometime between August 9 th at 7:30pm and the time he called police someone entered his vehicle and removed his ignition in an attempt to steal the vehicle. No evidence was recovered at the scene. 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : Lost property – 11:05am. Officers took a report from a man who claimed he lost his identification card in the City on August 3 rd . 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : Criminal citation – 12:30pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for possessing an open container of an alcoholic beverage in a public place. 3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue (Party Time) : Check fraud – 1:55pm. August 4 th : 4600 block of 30 th Street : Recovered stolen auto – 11:45pm. Officers were flagged down by a woman who told them that she had found her 2009 Mitsubishi that she had previously reported stolen to DC police. Officers found the vehicle to be in drivable condition. They also found that the owner’s tags had been removed and stolen tags affixed. The owner had her vehicle removed by a private tow company and officers seized the stolen tags. All appropriate notifications were made. August 3 rd : Nothing significant to report. August 2 nd : 3500 block of Rhode Island Avenue : CDS arrest – 1:40am. Officers stopped a 2001 Toyota Camry for an equipment violation. The officers smelled the odor of marijuana when they approached the vehicle to speak with the driver. Further investigation revealed that the driver was in possession of marijuana.
