Police Report: November 19

2300 block of Varnum Street: At about 11:45 a.m. officers took a report of a hit and run motor vehicle collision. The victim/owner told the officers that an unseen vehicle struck his 2006 Chevy Malibu and failed to remain at the scene of the collision. The was no evidence found that would lead to the identity of the striking vehicle.

4000 block of 34th Street: At about 11:20 p.m. officers responded for the report of a residential burglary in progress. As the officers arrived they observed a man climbing out of a broken window. When the man saw the officers he retreated into the house. The officers made several announcements ordering him to come out and identify himself, which he failed to do. The officers then entered the house and after a thorough search discovered him hiding in an upstairs crawl space. The man refused to come out of the crawl space and the officers were forced to deploy a Taser weapon to get him to comply. The Taser had the desired effect and he was taken into custody without further incident. He was charged with 4th degree burglary and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.
