3300 block of Chillum Road (7-11 parking lot): At about 12:30 a.m. officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim told the officers that he parked his vehicle in the 7-11 parking lot and went into the store leaving his driver’s side window down. When he returned to his vehicle he discovered that his cell phone had been stolen. The officers attempted to view the store’s security cameras but they found that the victim had parked his car out of the cameras’ view.

4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP Station): At about 11:20 a.m. officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim told the officers she when she returned to her vehicle after paying for gas she noticed her passenger door was open. She closed the door and drove to the 7-11 on Varnum Street and when she got there she discovered that her purse was missing from the passenger seat. She said that she did not see anyone suspicious at the gas station while she was getting her fuel. An attempt to review the security cameras at LOI was negative.

3200 block of Chillum Road: At about 3:10 p.m. officers took a report of stolen tags. The victim told the officers that sometime between 3 a.m. and the time of the report someone stole the front and rear license plates off of his vehicle. The tags were entered into NCIC as stolen.

3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 7:50 p.m. officers investigated a single vehicle motor vehicle collision. Their investigation revealed that the driver was going north on Rhode Island Avenue approaching the traffic circle at a speed greater than reasonable for the conditions. The driver lost control and made contact with the traffic circle. The vehicle sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene. The driver was not injured and refused medical treatment from on scene fire/rescue personnel. He was found at fault in the collision and issued three traffic citations.

4000 block of 36th Street: At about 8 p.m. officers took a report of a vandalism to auto. The victim/owner showed the officers where someone had dented the passenger side rear quarter panel and slashed the passenger side rear tire. She said that the damage may have been done by a female subject in retaliation to an earlier domestic argument.

2400 block of Chillum Road: At about 7 p.m. power shift officers observed an individual who they knew had an open arrest warrant for violation of probation. He was taken into custody without incident and delivered to the custody of the Maryland State Police for re-incarceration.

Community Shredding Day

Please mark you calendars for Saturday July 18th, 2009 for community shredding day. Priority One Shredding of Bowie, Maryland will provide free personal shredding services and secure document destruction from 8 am until 11am at the Bunker Hill Fire Station. Priority One Shredding is a leading provider of personal and business secure document destruction. Residents are welcome to watch their documents being destroyed, and once the shredding process is completed, the remains are locked in the mobile destruction unit until the paper is recycled. Priority One will also provide residents with a variety of identity theft prevention information free of charge. If you miss the community shredding day on July 18th, be sure to bring your bulk documents to National Night Out. Priority One will be onsite from 6-9 pm providing shredding services to residents again, free of charge .

Parking Citation Collection Notices

As you read this entry, many of our residents may have received a collection notice regarding one or more unpaid parking citations. We have received at least a hundred telephone calls, and our Records staff is quite taxed sorting out those notices that were received in error, and those that are legitimate. Just a few notes of caution that I’d like to pass along to help make things easier for all concerned. First, no member of the police department staff will void, cancel or otherwise dispose of a valid collection notice. We are also not authorized to make any payment arrangements or reduce the amount owed to the City. The staff at City Hall is under the same constraints. Persons who receive a collection notice and have concerns that it was issued in error should call the police department during regular business hours and our staff will research the citation.
