Police Report: July 13-14

July 13th:

2300 block of Varnum Street: At about 5:15 pm officers took a report of a strong armed robbery. The victim told the officers that he was assaulted by six juveniles who collectively punched him numerous times and stole a blue bag containing a book. The victim fought back and was able to keep his assailants from stealing his wallet. Once they had the victim’s bag they fled the area on foot in an unknown direction. A search of the area for the juveniles proved negative. The victim was transported to Washington Adventist Hospital for treatment of his minor injuries.

4100 block of 29th Street: At about 6:30 pm officers took a report of a residential burglary. The victim told the officers that he returned home to find the back door open and the back window broken. The victim said that nothing of value was missing from the residence and refused to have the scene processed for evidence.

4300 block of Russell Avenue: At about 9:30 pm officers took a report of a citizen robbery. The victim told the officers that as he walked to his apartment building he was followed by a black male who was talking on a cell phone. When the victim opened the door to his apartment building he was pushed inside by the man who was following him. Once inside he was accosted by two additional black males who came out of the laundry room. All three were armed with handguns. They collectively robbed the victim of a quantity of cash, his car keys and wallet. The three then fled the area in the victim’s newly purchased 2000 Ford Explorer that still had Virginia temporary tags. PGPD robbery detectives responded to the scene to interview the victim and begin a follow-up investigation. The victim was not injured during the robbery.

July 14th (early morning):

3300 block of Buchanan Street: At about 5 am officers impounded a burgundy Chevy Suburban (DC tags DM8723) that was abandoned after colliding with a parked vehicle. When the officers initially arrived on the scene they observed that the vehicle’s engine was running and its ignition was broken. The owner could not be contacted at the time of the report and the vehicle had not been reported stolen. It was impounded for safekeeping pending further information and investigation.
