Police Report: July 5-6

July 5th:

3200 block of Chillum Road: At about 1:10 am officers took a report of a residential burglary. The victim told the officers that when he and his family returned home from watching fireworks, he found the kitchen window had been broken out and several items missing from inside his apartment. At the request of the victim the scene was not processed for evidence.

4300 block of Kaywood Drive: At about 7 pm officers responded for the report of a domestic disturbance. When the officers arrived they were able to negotiate a settlement of the dispute and the male half left the apartment. The officers transported the female half to the commissioner’s office to assist her in obtaining a protective order. Once she obtained the protective order the officers took her back home. The officers were unable to locate the male half to serve the protective order.

Chillum Road and Queens Chapel Road: At about 8:30 pm officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver did not have a driver’s license. The vehicle was impounded and the driver was issued several traffic citations.

July 6th (early morning):

4200 block of Russell Avenue: At about 1:55 am officers were flagged down by a citizen who told them that someone had just broken into his vehicle and tried to steal the stereo. The officers canvassed the area but could not locate the suspects who had left the scene in a vehicle. At about 5 am officers received another call from the victim who said that the suspects had returned and succeeded in stealing the stereo that they started to steal earlier. This time the victim observed the suspects flee the scene in a silver Chrysler 300. The officers believe that the suspects in this case are the same ones who committed four thefts from auto on June 27th and who were driving the same silver Chrysler 300.

Crime Prevention Tip: Car Alarms

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage. So, the next time you come home for the night and start to put your keys away think of this: Put your car keys beside your bed when you retire for the night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone tries to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, within a few se...
