The officers spoke with the man’s personal physician who advised them that the deceased had been receiving treatment for heart related ailments and died as a result of congestive heart failure. Family members were contacted and made arrangements with Pope’s Funeral Home.

4000 block of 35th Street: At about 3 pm officers took a report of a residential burglary. The victim told the officers that he left home earlier in the day for a personal appointment. When he returned he discovered his laptop computer had been stolen. There were no signs of forced entry and the victim told the officers that he had left his first floor window open when he left for his appointment. A canvass of the area for evidence/witnesses proved negative.

3700 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 7 pm officers stopped a vehicle driven by a man known to them to have an open arrest warrant for failing to appear in court on a charge of driving without a license. The officers verified with the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office that the warrant was still active. He was arrested and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

July 27th:

3300 block of Buchanan Street: At about 8 am officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim told the officers that when he came out to his vehicle this morning he found the driver’s side window broken out of his 2001 Chevy Impala. He also discovered that the center caps to all four wheels had been stolen. Nothing of value was taken from the inside of the vehicle. A canvass of the area for evidence/witnesses proved negative.

The victim/owner told the officers that when she came out to her 2007 Cadillac Escalade this morning she discovered that all four wheels and tires had been stolen. A canvass of the area for evidence/witnesses was negative.

4600 block of 27th Street: At about 6:45 pm officers responded to the report of a fire in a hallway. When they arrived they discovered that someone had set phone book on fire in front of unit # 1 (they later learned that the occupants of that apartment had recently been evicted). The fire was extinguished and Prince George’s County arson investigators responded to the scene to assume the investigation.

3200 block of Chillum Road: At about 10 pm officers responded for the report of a husband/wife domestic dispute. The wife had been locked in her room by her husband and the husband had locked himself in the apartment. The wife was able to speak with the officers from her place of confinement and authorized officers to force entry into the apartment. Officers enlisted the help of fire/rescue personnel to enter the residence. They discovered that the husband had been drinking and had taken several prescription medications. He was very agitated and repeatedly told the officers that his wife was trying to hurt him and “out to get him.” Based on his condition and comments he was arrested and delivered to the custody of medical personnel at Washington Adventist Hospital for an emergency psychological examination. His wife was not injured.

Crime Prevention Tip: Car Alarms

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage. So, the next time you come home for the night and start to put your keys away think of this: Put your car keys beside your bed when you retire for the night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone tries to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, within a few se...
