Police Report: May 4

3700 block of Eastern Avenue: At about 1:40 pm officers responded for the report of a naked man walking in the roadway. When the officers arrived they discovered the man in question standing in the front yard of a private residence. During the course of speaking with the man it became apparent that he was under the influence of PCP. He was taken into custody and transported to the Prince George’s Hospital Center for an emergency psychological evaluation. While at the hospital he became combative with hospital staff and was able to free himself from his restraints. The officers were forced to deploy a department issued Taser to get him under control. He offered no further resistance and was turned over to hospital staff for treatment and evaluation.

3400 block of Windom Road: At about 11 pm officers stopped a vehicle for failing to stop for a stop sign. When the officers interviewed the driver about the violation he told them that he did not have a driver’s license. He was asked to exit the vehicle for further questioning and as he got out of the car he fled on foot. After about a two block foot chase officers were able to catch up with him and try to arrest him. A brief struggle ensued and the officers were forced to deploy their department issued pepper spray in order to get him under control and under arrest. He was charged with fleeing and eluding police, resisting arrest, second degree assault and failure to stop at a stop sign. He was released to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville after processing.

Parking Citation Collection Notices

As you read this entry, many of our residents may have received a collection notice regarding one or more unpaid parking citations. We have received at least a hundred telephone calls, and our Records staff is quite taxed sorting out those notices that were received in error, and those that are legitimate. Just a few notes of caution that I’d like to pass along to help make things easier for all concerned. First, no member of the police department staff will void, cancel or otherwise dispose of a valid collection notice. We are also not authorized to make any payment arrangements or reduce the amount owed to the City. The staff at City Hall is under the same constraints. Persons who receive a collection notice and have concerns that it was issued in error should call the police department during regular business hours and our staff will research the citation. All payments are to be made either to the collection agency directly or at City Hall. The police department does not acce...
