3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 8:45 pm officers on patrol observed two individuals consuming alcohol beverages near the bus stop. Both individuals were issued criminal citations for open container. One of them was found to have two open arrest warrants through Montgomery County for (you may not believe this) open container. He was arrested on the open warrants and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

Sunday February 14th:

3100 block of Buchanan Street: At about 5 am officers impounded a 1992 Ford Crown Victoria that had been abandoned in the street blocking traffic.

3400 block of Newton Street: At about 6:3o am officers received a call for an attempted stolen auto. When the officers arrived they discovered that someone had stolen a 1998 Lincoln Town Car sometime between Midnight and 6:20 am. The thieves were unable to get away with the vehicle because the icy road conditions caused them to crash just down the street.

4600 block of 30th Street: At about 2:30 pm officers took a vandalism to auto report. The victim/owner of 2000 Buick told the officers that sometime between 10 pm on February 13th and the time of the report someone slashed one of the car’s tires.

4200 block of 34th Street: At about 2:30 pm officers took a vandalism to auto report. The victim/owner of a 1997 Dodge van told the officers that sometime between 10 pm on February 13th and the time of the report someone slashed one of the car’s tires.

4000 block of 31st Place: At about 11 pm officers received a call for an assault with a knife. The officer’s investigation revealed that the male complainant had met a female on the internet and brought her to his residence with the intent of having sexual relations. When the female decided that she did not want to participate the man panicked and ran out of the residence. He went to a neighbor’s house where he called police and stated that the woman threatened to kill him with a knife. The man gave the officers inconstant stories and was believed to be under the influence of narcotics. Officers assisted the woman in finding safe transportation back to her city of residence.

Monday February 15th:

3100 block of Upshur Street: At about 8:15 am officers took a report of vandalism to auto. The victim/owner showed the officers where someone had put a roughly 15” scratch along the driver’s door. No suspects/evidence could be located.

3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 3:45 pm officers took a hit and run accident report. A parked vehicle was struck by a second unknown vehicle and sustained damage to the driver’s side quarter panels. A check of the area for witnesses/evidence was negative.

Crime Prevention Tip: Car Alarms

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage. So, the next time you come home for the night and start to put your keys away think of this: Put your car keys beside your bed when you retire for the night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone tries to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, within a few se...
