Police Report: February 19-21

February 19th:

4100 block of 32nd Street: At about 11 am officers took a fraud report. The victim told the officers that someone had stolen her identity and uttered over $1,000 in bad checks to various businesses during the month of December 2009. The victim notified her bank and an internal investigation was initiated.

4700 block of 27th Street: At about 3:30 pm officers took a report of a citizen robbery. The victim, a delivery person for the Golden China carryout in Hyattsville, was robbed at gunpoint by a man described as a 20 something black male wearing a red bandana over his mouth and armed with a black handgun. The man stole the victim’s cash and other personal belongings in addition to the food he was called to deliver. After taking the victim’s property the suspect fled the area on foot in an unknown direction. The victim continued on his delivery route and did not report the crime to police until he returned to the restaurant sometime later. Due to the delay in reporting the crime officers were unable to obtain any evidence as to the person responsible.

February 20th:

4100 block of 31st Street: At about 8 pm officers assisted child protective services in removing two juveniles from their residence. CPS case workers had a court order to take the two into custody pending a court hearing. They went peacefully with the CPS workers to a group home in Lanham.

3200 block of Varnum Street: At about 10 pm officers responded for the report of a domestic disturbance between a mother and her 50 year old son. The officers got the disturbance under control but discovered that the son had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for 2nd degree assault. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

February 21st:

2500 block of Arundel Road: At about 1 am officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver had a suspended Maryland license and the passenger had two open arrest warrants through Prince George’s County for failure to appear in court on various charges. The driver was issued a traffic citation for the suspended license and the passenger was arrested on the warrants and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville

3200 block of 34th Street: At about 4:30 am officers stopped a man for a field interview. When the officers began to question him he became loud and verbally abusive to the officers and attempted to strike one of them. After a short struggle the man was brought under control and arrested. Crime Prevention Tip: Car Alarms

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage. So, the next time you come home for the night and start to put your keys away think of this: Put your car keys beside your bed when you retire for the night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone tries to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, within a few se...
