Police Report: February 22-24

February 22nd:

2300 block of Varnum Street: At about 7:15 am officers took a theft report. The store clerk told the officers that a man entered the store, removed a can of red Bull energy drink and left without paying for it.

3300 block of Queens Chapel Road: At about 11:30 am officers responded for a domestic dispute. The officers discovered that a man and a woman has a verbal argument that was settled when the man voluntarily left the apartment. Neither party sustained any injuries and the female half was advised of her options with a District Court Commissioner.

3200 block of Perry Street: At about 5:10 pm officers took a report of a residential burglary. The victim/resident told the officers that sometime between noon and 4 pm someone broke into his residence and stole several items of personal property. The house was searched for evidence including a point of entry with negative results.

3700 block of 35th Street: At about 10:30 pm officers investigated a suspicious vehicle. They found that the driver was driving down the alley and got stuck in the snow. Both the driver and passenger appeared to be impaired by PCP. Neither was wanted and neither was in any shape to drive so the officers impounded their vehicle for safekeeping. No charges were placed since the officers did not see anyone actually drive the car.

February 23rd:

3200 block of Otis Street: At about 1:40 am officers took a report of a vandalism to auto. The victim/owner told the officers that she had a fight with her boyfriend and when he left her residence she saw him attempt to slash the left rear tire on her car. The victim said that afterwards she drove the car for about 20 miles when she discovered that the tire was flat. When she changed the tire she discovered that it had been punctured by a sharp object. The officers are in the process of obtaining an arrest warrant for the boyfriend for destruction of property.

3300 block of Chillum Road: At about 2 am officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver had a suspended driver’s license. He was issued the appropriate citations and the vehicle was impounded.

February 24th:

3200 block Road Island Avenue: At about 9:30 am officers investigated a two-car collision. Their investigation revealed that the driver of one of the vehicles failed to stop and struck the second vehicle in the rear. No injuries were reported. The at fault driver was charged accordingly.

3700 block of Quincy Street (Brentwood): At about 3 pm officers observed a suspicious individual and stopped to initiate a field interview. When the officers approached the man they saw him discard an object in attempt to conceal it from them. The officers retrieved the object and found it to be a baggie containing marijuana. The man was placed under arrest and searched. During the search the officers found anoth similar baggie also with marijuana inside. He was subsequently charged with possession of CDS and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

4200 block of Eastern Avenue: At about 6 pm officers investigated a residential burglary. The victim/resident told the officers that sometime between 7 am and 5:30 pm someone entered his apartment and stole several electronic items. The officers were unable to locate any evidence of forced entry into the apartment.

2700 block of Arundel Road: At about 11:30 pm officers responded for the report of a domestic assault. When the officers arrived they located the intoxicated male half sitting in front of the apartment building and his girlfriend inside the building bleeding from the head and face. Interviews of both individuals revealed that the two got into a verbal dispute which led the man to beat his girlfriend causing her injuries. The man was arrested, charged with domestic assault and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage.
