Police Report: August 21-27

The Mount Rainier Police Department’s weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. Some reports may be outside the date parameters due to extended investigations or other circumstances. Some cases are not included at all due to ongoing investigations.

August 27th:

4200 block of 28th Street: Domestic – 5pm. The victim reported that she and her son’s father got into a violent domestic argument. During the argument the man kicked her front door damaging the doorbell. The man was arrested and charged with destruction of property.

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Criminal citation - 10:15pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking in public.

August 26th:

4200 block of 30th Street: Theft from auto (supplement) – 2:15am. Officers assisted DC police with locating a vehicle listed to an address in Mount Rainier that fled from them on a traffic stop. MRPD officers located the vehicle and found it to have different tags attached than those observed by the DC officers. Both sets of tags involved had been previously reported, one set from an address in the 4400 block of 30th Street. The tags on the vehicle were seized.

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Criminal citation – 10:50pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking in public.

August 25th:

Nothing significant to report.

August 24th:

Nothing significant to report.

August 23rd:

4200 block of 30th Street: Recovered stolen tags – 4:15pm. Officers were notified by PGPD that the tags stolen off a 2015 Toyota on August 22nd were recovered on the BW Parkway at Annapolis Road. No arrests were made. 

2700 block of Upshur Street: Vehicle impound – 9am. Officers impounded a 2005 Volvo for displaying expired tags.

4200 block of 30th Street: Vehicle impound – 9:25pm. Officers impounded a 2001 Jeep Cherokee for displaying expired tags.

3200 block of Queenstown Drive: Property damage – 6:20pm. The owner of a 2015 Ford reported that he came out to his vehicle this evening and discovered damage to the left side door that may have been caused by another vehicle.

4000 block of 35th Street: EPS – 8:10pm. Officers took a man into custody who was exhibiting symptoms of PCP intoxication. He was transported to Washington Adventist Hospital for proper medical treatment.

3700 block of 34th Street: Criminal citation – 7:50am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking in public.

3100 block of Buchanan Street: Property damage – 7:40pm. The owner of a 2007 Mitsubishi reported that he came out to his vehicle this evening and discovered scrapes and minor damage to the vehicle’s bumper.

4200 block of 30th Street: Stolen tags – 7:55pm. The owner of a 2016 Kia told officers that she came out to her vehicle this evening and discovered that both the front and rear tags had been stolen.

August 22nd:

3400 block of 34th Street: Criminal citation – 5:30pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for disorderly conduct.

4200 block of 30th Street: Stolen tags – 6:35am. The owner of a 2015 Toyota reported that he came out to his vehicle this morning and discovered that the front tag had been stolen off his vehicle.

3100 block of Chillum Road: M/V collision – 8:50pm. The driver of a 2008 Dodge told officers that as he was backing out of a parking space he struck a parked, unoccupied MRPD marked police cruiser. The cruiser sustained a small crack in the bumper. The driver was a juvenile with only a learner’s permit. He was cited accordingly.

August 21st:

2700 block of Queens Chapel Road: Domestic – 3:30am. The victim told officers that she got into an altercation with a man she had dated previously and against whom she had obtained a protective order. The man followed her home and confronted her. When she told him she was calling police he broke her driver’s door window in an attempt to get her phone. The man fled the scene in a silver truck. She was advised to contact the Commissioner’s officer to obtain charges against the man.

4000 block of 36th Street: Citizen robbery – 6:45pm. The victim told officers that he was accosted by a man with a semi-automatic handgun. The suspect said nothing and went through the victim’s pockets and stole his wallet. The victim and the suspect struggled briefly before fleeing down 36th Street towards Shepherd Street where he got into a Toyota Camry driven by a second suspect and fled towards 38th Street.

The following information  comes courtesy  of the  New Jersey Cybersecurity & Communications Integration Cell Public cell phone charging stations supplied with power cables or USB ports located in stores, airports, libraries, and schools may seem like a convenient way to charge your mobile devices on-the-go, but can you be sure that your device and data will be safe if you connect? These kiosks can contain concealed computers that attempt to extract data such as contact information, photos, and videos from connected devices, unbeknownst to the users. Additionally, malicious or compromised charging stations can expose devices to the risk of a malware infection. Even if the charging station isn’t malicious, the manufacturer or owner of the kiosk may require users to input their email addresses or phone numbers in order to charge their devices, potentially exposing them to unwanted marketing campaigns, spam emails, and scam calls. Police Report: May 8-11

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi
