Police Report: September 24-25

September 24th:

2300 block of Varnum Street (7-11): At about 10:45 a.m. officers responded for the report of a theft. The store clerk told the officers that a man came into the store, helped himself to a fountain drink and left without paying for it. The clerk was able to provide a good description of the man and the officers located him in the 4300 block of 28th Place. During questioning the man admitted to the theft and was also found to have two open arrest warrants through Montgomery County for failing to appear in court on separate theft charges. He was arrested on the warrants and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3200 block of Queens Chapel Road: At about 2:45 p.m. officers took a report of a two car motor vehicle collision. Their investigation revealed that the driver of the striking vehicle failed to control his speed and struck a second vehicle in the rear. The driver of the struck vehicle was taken to Prince George’s Hospital for a check-up for neck and back pains (non-life threatening). The struck vehicle was impounded for safekeeping.

September 25th (early morning):

3800 block of 34th Street: At about 2:30 a.m. officers responded for the report of a theft. A driver for Federal Cab told the officers that he dropped off a female at her residence. The female asked the cab driver to wait while she retrieved cab fare from inside her house. When she didn’t return the driver called police. The officers were able to get the woman to come out of her hose where the cab driver positively identified her as the woman who failed to pay the fare. The officers observed that she was very intoxicated and was unsteady on her feet and slurring her speech. When the officers told her that she would have to pay the cab fare or be arrested for theft she became abusive to them and disorderly. Attempts to get the woman to calm down were unsuccessful and the officers moved to take her into custody. A brief struggle ensued before the officers were able to get her under control and under arrest. She was charged with misdemeanor theft, disorderly conduct, assault on a police officer, and resisting arrest. She was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville without further incident.

Crime Prevention Tip: Car Alarms

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage. So, the next time you come home for the night and start to put your keys away think of this: Put your car keys beside your bed when you retire for the night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone tries to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, within a few se...
