Police Report: September 28-29

September 28th:

4100 block of 34th Street: At about 2:45 p.m. officers took an injured person report. The victim told the officers that a PEPCO lamp post cover fell off a pole and struck him on the right side of his neck. The victim refused medical treatment and PEPCO was notified to repair the lamp post.

4300 block of Eastern Avenue: At about 2:30 p.m. officers took a suspicious incident report. The complainant told the officers that she came out to her vehicle and found the driver’s side rear tire low on air – not flat just low on air. She said that this has happened before and did not know who, if anyone could be responsible. There was no evidence of foul play and she was advised to have the tire checked at a service station.

4300 block of Eastern Avenue: At about 7:30 p.m. officers took a report of a vandalism. The victim told the officers that he heard a loud noise/bang to the rear of his apartment. At first he suspected that the noise was a gunshot but when he went to investigate he discovered that someone had smashed out his dining room window with a large rock. The victim did not see anyone suspicious in the area and the officers’ check of the area was negative for suspects and/or witnesses.

Rhode Island Avenue & Eastern Avenue: At about 7:40 p.m. power shift officers observed a known wanted subject walking down Rhode Island Avenue. When the officers tried to apprehend the subject he fled on foot into DC. After a lengthy foot pursuit the officers were able catch him and a brief struggle ensued. The officers were forced to deploy a Taser device to get the individual under control and under arrest. MPD officers arrived on the scene and took custody of the individual as a fugitive from justice. Additional charges against this individual for assault on a police officer, and other charges, are pending.

3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 11:40 p.m. power shift officers observed an individual urinating on the sidewalk. He was issued a criminal citation for the violation and sent on his way.

September 29th (early morning):

4200 block of 28th Street: At about 1:20 a.m. officers received a report of a motor vehicle collision. When they arrived they found that a red 2009 Chevrolet Impala had struck a parked and unoccupied vehicle. The driver of the Impala and two passengers were located inside the vehicle passed out. The officers also located several open alcoholic beverages inside with the occupants. Further investigation determined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol after he failed a field sobriety test. He refused to submit to a breathalyzer. He was charged via citation with DWI/DUI and negligent driving. The two passengers were issued criminal citations for possession of open alcoholic beverages in a motor vehicle. The Impala (a rental) was impounded for safekeeping. The owner of the struck vehicle was located and issued a case number for the insurance claim.

Crime Prevention Tip: Car Alarms

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage. So, the next time you come home for the night and start to put your keys away think of this: Put your car keys beside your bed when you retire for the night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone tries to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, within a few se...
