Police Report: September 18-21

September 18th:

4100 block of 33rd Street: At about 12:05 a.m. officers responded for the report of a fire inside a private home. The officers spoke with the homeowner who told them that she had been working inside her home when she smelled smoke. When she went to investigate she noticed a lamp flickering on and off and a couch on fire. She unsuccessfully tried to put out the fire and it soon grew out of control and spread throughout the house. Fire/rescue personnel responded to extinguish the blaze. The homeowner was transported to MedStar where she was treated for minor burns. Fire investigators ruled that the source of the fire was electrical and started accidentally. Damage to the home was estimated at about $30,000.

2400 block of Chillum Road: At about 3 a.m. officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and did not have a valid driver’s license. He was issued several state traffic citations and his vehicle was impounded.

33rd and Perry Streets: At about 10:10 a.m. received a CDS complaint with a lookout for a black male about 5'11" tall, 150 lbs., wearing a black jacket and black shoes. When the officers arrived they found a man who fit that description and observed that he was drinking from an open container of an alcoholic beverage. Further investigation revealed that he had an open arrest warrant through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office for failing to appear in court on a charge of disorderly conduct. He was arrested on the warrant, issued a criminal citation for the alcohol violation and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3500 block of Bunker Hill Road: At about 2 p.m. officers took a report of vandalism to a 2008 Nissan Altima. The victim/owner told the officers that she parked her car by her residence at about 12:45 p.m. When she returned to her car a little over an hour later she discovered that someone had broken out her driver’s side window. No evidence or witnesses that could help identify those responsible could be found at the time of the report.

3700 block of 38th Street: At about 2 p.m. officers stopped a vehicle for displaying an expired Delaware tag. Further investigation revealed that the driver was wanted through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office for failing to appear in court. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. The vehicle was impounded.

3700 block of 35th Street: At about 8:30 p.m. officers responded to investigate a report of suspicious individuals in the area. The officers did not locate anyone suspicious but they did discover a small plastic bag containing marijuana. They deposited the bag and its contents into evidence so that it could be destroyed.

September 19th:

3500 block of Perry Street: At about 6:35 p.m. power shift officers observed an individual urinating in public. They also discovered that he was in possession of a small quantity of crack cocaine. He was arrested, charged with possession of a CDS and urinating in public. He was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

Kaywood Drive & Kaywood Place: At about 11:33 p.m. power shift officers were on Segway patrol when they observed a vehicle being driven without its headlights on. They stopped the vehicle for the violation and subsequently discovered that the driver was in possession of a substantial amount of marijuana. He was arrested and delivered to the custody of DOC in Upper Marlboro.

September 20th:

4200 block of 28th Street: At about 8:45 p.m. officers responded for the report of a citizen armed robbery. The victim told the officers that he saw a gray or blue van stop near his vehicle. Two black males got out of the van armed with handguns and ordered him to the ground. One of the men went thru the victim’s pockets and stole several items of his personal property. Both suspects got back into the van and fled the area in an unknown direction. A canvass of the area for the van and the two suspects was conducted with negative results. PGPD robbery detectives responded to assume the follow-up investigation.

September 21st (early morning):

3300 block of Chillum Road: At about 12:49 a.m. officers observed a vehicle drive into and park in the parking lot. When the driver got out of the car the officers saw that he was barely able to stand up or walk on his own. He submitted to a field sobriety test which he failed, however he refused to submit to further blood alcohol testing. He was charged with DUI/DWI via citation and released at the scene.

Police Report: May 8-11

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi
