Police Report: August 31-September 2

Monday August 31st:

3500 block of Varnum Street: At about 8 p.m. officers received a call that an individual who had three open arrest warrants was possibly in the 3500 block of Varnum Street. The officers located and stopped the individual and the warrants were confirmed. He was arrested and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3300 block of Chillum Road: At about 11:50 p.m. officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. When the officers approached the driver they smelled a strong odor of alcohol about his person. The driver submitted to standard field sobriety testing and failed the tests. He refused to submit to blood alcohol testing. He was charged with DUI/DWI and other traffic violations and released at the scene. His vehicle was impounded for safekeeping.

Tuesday September 1st:

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: At about 11 a.m. officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim/owner showed the officers where sometime between 8 p.m. the previous night and the time of the report person(s) unknown broke into her 1998 Nissan through the sun roof and stole several items of her personal property. No evidence or witnesses to the crime could be found at the scene.

3600 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 6:10 p.m. officers attempted to stop an individual for a field interview. Rather than stop and talk with the officers the individual fled the area on foot. After about a three block foot pursuit officers were able to catch and detain him. A wanted check revealed that he had three open arrest warrants through Prince George’s County for robbery. He was arrested and, because he was a juvenile, he was delivered to the custody of the Department of Juvenile Services in Cheltenham.

34th Street and Rhode Island Avenue: At about 11 p.m. officers stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation. When they approached the vehicle to talk with the driver they smelled a strong odor of marijuana. Further investigation revealed that a passenger in the vehicle was in possession of 15.7 grams of marijuana having a street value of $180. The passenger was arrested, charged with CDS possession and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. The driver was issued a state traffic citation and a criminal citation and released at the scene.

Wednesday September 2nd (early morning):

34th Street and Rhode Island Avenue: At about 8 p.m. on September 1st PGPD investigated a citizen strong armed robbery that occurred at 38th Street and Rhode Island Avenue. The County officers got a description of the robbery suspect which they passed on to MRPD. At about 4 a.m. officers discovered an individual matching that description at 34th Street and Rhode Island Avenue and stopped him for a field interview. During the interview the officers learned that he had an open arrest warrant through the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Department. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. PGPD detectives were notified that the suspect in their robbery case was in custody and they responded to interview him about his involvement in the crime.

3700 block of Queens Chapel Road: At about 5:55 a.m. officers were called to investigate three individuals sleeping in an apartment hallway. The officers located the three men and learned that one of them had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for failing to appear for a court hearing. He was arrest on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. The other two individuals were sent on their way without further incident.

Police Report: May 8-11

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi
