Tuesday September 9:

4100 block of 28th Street: At about 8 am officers took a report of a stolen auto. The victim parked his 1994 Honda Accord with Maryland tags 6DJN36 at his residence the previous evening. When the officers arrived they observed the daughter with a butcher knife being restrained by her father. The officers were able to disarm the daughter and take her into custody. The daughter was apparently having a mental breakdown for reasons that were unknown at time of incident. The father was not injured and did not want criminal charges placed against his daughter. He stated that his daughter needed medical attention. Based on his comments and the officers’ observations she was taken to Washington Adventist Hospital for an emergency psychological examination.

The vehicle was originally reported stolen from the 3800 block of 31st Street in Mount Rainier on September 5th. No arrest(s) were made and both tags were still attached to the vehicle; however it was not drivable at the time of recovery. The victim was notified of the recovery.

3600 block of Oak Lane: At about 8:45 am officers on patrol observed a parked vehicle with four wheels missing. A closer inspection of the vehicle revealed ignition damage. An NCIC check revealed that the vehicle had been stolen from an address in Prince George’s County. The vehicle was impounded and the owner notified via registered letter.

3200 block of Chillum Road: At about 9:15 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The reporting person told the officers that another family member brought a female friend (known only as “T”) to their residence. A short time later the reporting person observed that the keys to his vehicle were missing as was Ms. “T.” When the reporting person went to look for his 2001 Lincoln Town Car (Maryland tags 2DSG04) it was gone as well. Officers are now trying to identify Ms. “T” and find out what, if anything, she did with the victim’s Town car.

Recovered stolen auto: At about 10 am officers were notified by PGPD that they recovered a 1994 Honda Accord in the 2200 block of Benning Place in Hyattsville. The vehicle was originally reported stolen from the 4100 block of 28th Street in Mount Rainier on September 9th. No arrest(s) were made and both tags were still attached to the vehicle; however it was not drivable at the time of recovery. The victim was notified of the recovery.

Thursday September 11:

1 Municipal Place Bus Terminal): At about 2 am officers on patrol observed an individual lying on a bench with his face covered. The officers approached this individual to check his welfare and asked him if he was OK and or needed any medical attention. He did not respond or move. The officers made several more attempts to communicate with the individual without much success. At one point he briefly uncovered his face, looked at the officers then covered his face once again. The officers asked the subject to sit up and produce some form of identification. He continued to ignore the officers and refused to comply. The officers continued to try and get the individual to cooperate, and instead of being nice he became loud and disorderly. He refused to calm down and get himself under control and the officers had to take him into custody for disorderly conduct. He was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

25th Street & Arundel Road: At about 1:10 am officers on patrol observed a white Volkswagen SUV driving on the wrong side of the road. The officers stopped the vehicle and found that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. She was arrested for DUI.

Parking Citation Collection Notices

As you read this entry, many of our residents may have received a collection notice regarding one or more unpaid parking citations. We have received at least a hundred telephone calls, and our Records staff is quite taxed sorting out those notices that were received in error, and those that are legitimate. Just a few notes of caution that I’d like to pass along to help make things easier for all concerned. First, no member of the police department staff will void, cancel or otherwise dispose of a valid collection notice. We are also not authorized to make any payment arrangements or reduce the amount owed to the City. The staff at City Hall is under the same constraints. Persons who receive a collection notice and have concerns that it was issued in error should call the police department during regular business hours and our staff will research the citation. All payments are to be made either to the collection agency directly or at City Hall. The police department does not acce...
