Police Report: July 17-19

Friday July 17th:

One Municipal Place: At about 10:40 pm officers on patrol observed an individual consuming an alcoholic beverage in a public place. He was issued a criminal citation for the violation and sent on his way.

Saturday July 18th:

3300 block of Buchanan Street: At about 12:15 am officers responded for a domestic dispute. When the officers arrived they spoke with the individuals involved and determined that the situation was an argument only; and no physical violence had occurred. The parties were advised of their legal options.

30th and Upshur Streets: At about 6 am officers responded to a call for a motor vehicle collision. Their investigation showed that a minor collision occurred and an unoccupied vehicle was struck.

Sunday July 19th:

4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station): At about 12:30 pm officers took a theft report. The victim told the officers that she finished pumping gas and went inside the station to pay for it. While she was in the station a gray 4-door vehicle pulled up and someone jumped out of the vehicle and stole her purse. The suspects immediately fled the parking lot in an unknown direction.

2300 block of Varnum Street: At about 4:15 pm power shift officers observed a vehicle driving while the driver was consuming an alcoholic beverage. The officers stopped the vehicle to investigate. During interviews of the driver and passenger the officers discovered that the driver was in possession of a small quantity of crack cocaine. The officers immediately placed him under arrest whereupon the passenger assaulted one of the officers and tried to flee the area on foot. The officers chased the passenger and were finally able to catch and subdue him by utilizing a TASER device. Once in custody the passenger was found to be in possession of a large quantity of crack cocaine. Both individuals were transported to DOC in Upper Marlboro where they were charged with various CDS crimes, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.

3300 block of Otis Street: At about 8:45 pm officers received a call for damage to a residential deck. The residents told the officers that they had been out of town for a few days and when they returned they discovered that the support posts for their deck were damaged. Judging from the damage it appeared as if a motor vehicle ran into the deck supports. No additional evidence as to who may have been responsible could be located at the scene.

Crime Prevention Tip: Car Alarms

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage. So, the next time you come home for the night and start to put your keys away think of this: Put your car keys beside your bed when you retire for the night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone tries to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, within a few se...
