Police Report: April 23-25

April 23rd:

4000 block of 29th Street: At about 7:45 am officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim/owner told the officers that sometime during the evening/morning hours someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole an item of clothing that had been left inside. A check of the area for evidence/witnesses was negative.

4000 block of 32nd Street (Mount Rainier Elementary School): At about 11:30 am officers were called to the school in regards to a child custody matter. The mother of a student was at the school to take custody of her child pursuant to a court order. The officers verified the validity of the order and the mother took custody of her child without incident.

3200 block of Upshur Street: At about 1:45 pm officers responded for an animal complaint. The resident told the officers that sometime between 4 pm and 11 pm two stray dogs came into her yard and killed her cat. The officers were unable to locate the dogs in question and PG Animal Control officials were notified.

4000 block of 28th Street: At about 10:55 pm officers took a report of a stolen auto. The victim/owner told the officers that sometime between 4:30 pm and 10:30 pm someone stole his brown 1998 Jeep Cherokee (MD tags 888M414). No evidence was recovered and no witnesses could be located.

April 24th:

3700 block of 35th Street: At about 1:10 pm officers observed an individual who they knew from past contact had a habit of selling CDS. They stopped the man for a field interview and learned that he had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for failing to appear in court on a CDS possession charge. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP Station): At about 8:30 pm officers on patrol stopped two suspicious individuals for a field interview. Further investigation revealed that one of the two had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for failing to appear in court. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3700 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 10 pm officers observed several individuals who were in possession of open containers of alcohol. When the officers approached the group they fled on foot in different directions. The officers were able to catch and arrest one of them. He was transported to DOC in Hyattsville for processing. During a search of his person at DOC officers discovered that he was in possession of a small quantity of marijuana. He was ultimately charged with disorderly conduct, possession of a CDS, possession of CDS paraphernalia, resisting arrest and the original alcohol violation.

April 25th:

4300 block of Russell Avenue: At about 2:30 am officers took a report of a citizen robbery. The victim told the officers that as she was walking to her apartment building she was approached by two men who grabbed her shoulder bag and tried to take it from her by force. She resisted the two as best she could but the eventually overpowered her and took the bag. Both men fled on Russell Avenue towards Eastern Avenue and disappeared. The officers searched the area for the two suspects and were able to locate a man matching the victim’s description in the 4100 block of 29th Street. When the suspect saw the officers he immediately fled on foot through the rear yards of several homes. A perimeter was established with the assistance of Hyattsville PD officers and an HCP K9 unit attempted a track. The dog tracked the suspect to the rear of an address in the 4100 block of 30th Street where the track was lost. The victim was unharmed and taken to a family residence for the evening by MRPD officers. The suspects were described as black males, both of whom wore red jackets with one of the suspects having corn row style hair.

3400 block of Upshur Street: At about 1:40 pm officers took a report of a hit and run motor vehicle collision. The victim’s vehicle was parked and unoccupied when it was hit by another motor vehicle that failed to remain at the scene. The victim’s vehicle sustained damage to the driver’s side rear quarter panel. The area was checked for evidence/witnesses with negative results.

3200 block of Varnum Street: At about 3:45 pm officers responded to serve a second degree assault warrant. The subject of the warrant was located at a private residence and arrested without incident. He was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage.
