Police Report: November 28-29

November 28th : 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 8 am officers responded for the report of a suspicious person . The officers stopped the individual in a stairwell and immediately recognized him as a man who had been barred from the property by MRPD on previous occasions. The officers again advised him to leave the property and not return and he complied. When he saw the officers leave the area he returned to his previous spot in the stairwell. The officers had anticipated his actions and also returned and arrested him for trespassing and failure to obey a lawful order of a police officer. He was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 2400 block of Arundel Road : At about 10:25 am officers responded for the report of a motor vehicle collision . Further investigation revealed that the driver of the striking vehicle traveling north on Arundel Road when he lost control and struck three parked vehicles. 3200 block of Chillum Road : At about 3 am officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation . Further investigation revealed that the driver did not have a valid license. He was charged accordingly and his vehicle was impounded for safekeeping. 4100 block of 31st Street : At about 7:15 am officers took a report of a residential burglary . The victim told the officers that sometime between 11:30 last night and this morning someone entered the residence and stole numerous items of personal property from the lower main level of the house. The victim also said that the house was secured when they went to bed, however when they awoke and came downstairs they observed the rear door wide open and the property missing. No damage was observed to the rear door and no evidence was recovered. 4300 block of Russell Avenue : At about 11:40 am officers took a report of a theft from auto . Queens Chapel Road @ Chillum Road : At about 1:55 am officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation . Further investigation revealed that the driver did not have a driver’s license and had been arrested for the same offense two weeks earlier. He was arrested again for the traffic violation. 4300 block of Russell Avenue : At about 9:15 pm officers took a report of a citizen armed robbery . The victim told the officers that while he was walking to his residence he was accosted by two black males, one of whom displayed a black revolver and demanded his property. The second suspect relieved the victim of his cash and cell phone and fled on foot on Russell Avenue towards Eastern Avenue. A search for the two suspects proved negative and PGPD robbery detectives responded to the scene to assume a follow-up investigation. 4200 block of 29th Street : At about 9 am officers responded to assist fire/rescue personnel with a medical emergency . When police and EMS arrived they discovered that a man had died after a protracted battle with cancer. 4600 block of 25th Street : At about 8:15 am officers responded to a report of a vandalism to auto . The victim told the officers that he parked and locked his vehicle at about 1:30 am. When he returned for it this morning he discovered that someone had broken out his front passenger window with a brick. Nothing was taken from his vehicle. 4300 block of 28th Place : At about 10:50 am officers took a report of a residential burglary . The victim told the officers that sometime between November 24th 9:10 am and this morning someone entered the apartment through a window and stole cash and two laptops. November 23rd : 3100 block of Upshur Street : At about 11:30 am officers took a report of lost property . The reporting person told the officers that she lost two Jamaican passports. One of the passports was hers and one was her son’s. 3600 block of Perry Street : At about 1:30 pm officers took a report of a residential burglary . The officers were unable to determine an exact point of entry into the residence. The victim reported numerous items of personal property had been stolen, including jewelry and other items. The victim also told the officers that the person responsible may be a former friend who resided with her at one time. The residence was processed for prints with one possible recovered. November 24th : 4300 block of 30th Street : At about 3:30 am officers responded for the report of an intruder . When the officers arrived they searched the residence to ensure that the intruder was not still in the home. The victim could only describe the suspect as a male wearing

November 20th : 2700 block of Upshur Street : At about 2:25 am officers stopped a suspicious person for a field interview. During the interview the officers discovered that he had two open arrest warrants for possession of crack cocaine. He was arrested on the warrants and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 11:25 pm a Mount Rainier Police Officer was issuing parking tickets when an irate black male approached him from behind and struck him in the back. The officer then turned around and advised the subject he was under arrest. The subject, who appeared to be under the influence of PCP, did not comply with the officer’s repeated verbal commands and charged at the officer attempting to further assaulted him. The officer was able to call for assistance and deploy a TASER. After a brief struggle officers were able to take the subject into custody. November 17th : 4500 block of 29th Street : At about 7:15 am officers took a report of a vandalism to auto. The victim told the officers that when she went out to her vehicle this morning she discovered that someone had broken out the driver’s side window. No evidence/witnesses could be found. 2700 block of Webster Street : At about 8:15 am officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim told the officers that when he went out to his rented 2001 BMW this morning he discovered that someone had broken into the vehicle through the passenger side window and stole his iPod. A canvass of the area provided negative results. 3200 block of Chillum Road : At about 8:40 pm officers responded for the report of a suspicious person. The mother of a 26 year old man told the officers that her son suffered from bipolar disorder and had not been taking his medication. While the officers were interviewing the mother, her son became agitated and threatened to kill her and himself. At that po

November 14th : 4200 block of 32nd Street : At about 9:15 am officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim told the officers that as she was about to get into her vehicle she noticed that the driver’s side window had been broken out. She also discovered that her GPS system had been stolen. No evidence or witnesses were identified. 2300 block of Varnum Street : At about 5:30 pm officers took a report of a stolen auto. The owner of a 1998 Pontiac grand Prix (DC tag DN5185) told the officers that he left his vehicle running with a passenger inside. The passenger later left the vehicle without turning it off and taking the keys. When the owner went back to the vehicle he saw it being driven away by an unknown person. A search of the area for the vehicle proved negative. 4200 block of Russell Avenue : At about 7:50 pm officers took a report of a stolen auto. The victim told the officers that he was visiting a friend and parked his 1996 Chrysler Sirrus in front of the friend’

November 11th : 3100 block of Upshur Street : At about 9:45 am officers took a theft from auto report. The victim told the officers that sometime between 9:30 pm on the 10th and the time of his call to police someone broke the left rear vent window of his Honda Accord, entered the car and stole his Pioneer radio. 2300 block of Arundel Road : At about 5 pm officers investigated a hit and run collision. The victim told the officers that he heard what sounded like a collision and went outside to investigate. He discovered that his vehicle had been hit by a second vehicle which failed to remain at the scene. 3500 block of 37th Street : At about 5:45 officers took a report of a residential burglary. The victim told the officers that sometime between 2 pm and 5:30 pm someone forced open the front door to her residence, entered, and stole two laptop computers. November 8th : Queen Chapel & Chillum Roads : At about 4:20 am officers stopped a vehicle that was operating with no headlights. Further investigation revealed that a female juvenile had taken the vehicle without her parent’s permission and given it to her boyfriend who was driving at the time of the stop. The boyfriend/driver was arrested, charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 3300 block of Buchanan Street : At about 4:10 pm officers took a theft report. The victim told the officers that he ordered an entertainment center which was delivered to his residence and signed for by an unknown party. He never received the merchandise. The theft was reported to the vendor for replacement of the item. 3200 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 10:45 pm officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. November 5th : 4200 block of Kaywood Drive : At about 10:10 am Mount Rainier Code Enforcement impounded a vehicle for displaying expired registration plates. The vehicle had been marked for 48-hour towing on November 3rd. 2900 block of Shepherd Street : At about 3:30 pm officers took a report of a storehouse burglary. The officers observed that the victim’s garage had been forcibly entered and various tools had been stolen. 2400 block of Chillum Road : At about 7:40 pm officers conducted a random license plate check on a vehicle through MILES/NCIC. The check revealed that the vehicle’s tags were suspended for failing to comply with VEIP. The vehicle was stopped and further investigation revealed that the occupants were in possession of marijuana. They were arrested, charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 4500 block of Eastern Avenue : At about 8:10 am officers took a theft from auto report. The victim told the officers that while inside paying for gas someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole her purse. No evidence was recovered and no witnesses were identified. 3300 block of Buchanan Street : At about 8 am officers took an attempted burglary report. The resident told the officers that she left her apartment at about 6:30 am and when she returned she noticed that the weather stripping around the front door had been removed. The door was still locked and nothing was missing from inside. November 3rd : 2200 block of Varnum Street : At about 7 am officers took a report of vandalism to auto . The owner of a 2008 Chrysler showed the officers where someone had thrown eggs at her vehicle. No evidence was recovered and no witnesses were identified. 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 7:50 pm officers took a report of a vandalism to auto . The owner of a Nissan Xterra showed the officers where someone had broken out one of the vehicle’s windows. Nothing was taken from inside the vehicle and no evidence was recovered and no witnesses were identified. November 4th (early morning): 4100 block of Russell Avenue : At about 2:45 am officers responded for the report of two suspicious males on bicycles wearing all dark clothing possibly tampering with vehicles. The officers canvassed the area and came across two individuals who fit the description given by the complainant. 4500 block of Eastern Avenue : At about 7:20 am officers took a report of a theft from auto . The victim told the officers that after she finished pumping gas she discovered that someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole her purse. 3100 block of Shepherd Street : At about 9:40 am officers took a report of a citizen robbery . The victim told the officers that as he was walking on his way to vote he was approached by two black males. One of the males displayed a handgun and demanded his property (cell phone, wallet, keys and brief case). After the suspect determined that the victim had nothing of value other than the cell phone he gave the victim back his property minus the cell phone. Both suspects then fled the area on foot in an unknown direction. The victim described the man with the gun as a black male, 18 years of age, with shoulder length dreads, thin build, wearing a black zip-up fleece with a red emblem on it and black track pants. 3300 block of Buchanan Street : At about 1:45 am officers responded for the report of unknown trouble and possibly the sounds of shots. When the officers arrived they discovered a red Ford truck that had collided with a parked car. A check of the truck revealed that its ignition was damaged and it was displaying a Maryland temporary tag that had been previously reported stolen to PGPD. A check of the truck’s VIN revealed that it had been reported stolen from an address in Mount Rainier back on October 26th. The truck was recovered and impounded for safekeeping. The vehicle with which the truck was badly damaged and partially blocking the roadway. The officers were unable to locate the driver of this vehicle so it was also impounded. 3300 block of Chauncey Place : At about 5 pm officers took a report of a theft from auto . Friday October 29th : 4100 block of 31st Street & 4000 block of 33rd Street : At about 8:15 am officers took two reports of thefts from auto . Both victims told the officers that sometime during the previous night someone broke into their car and stole several items of personal property. No evidence or witnesses to the crime were located. 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 7:40 pm officers issued a man a criminal citation for urinating in public. Saturday October 30th : 2700 block of Upshur Street : At about 12:15 pm officers patrolling the area with a license plate reader received an alert that a passing vehicle had been reported stolen . The officers verified that the vehicle, a blue VW Jetta, had been reported stolen to PGPD and initiated a traffic stop. Both the driver and a passenger were arrested, charged with felony theft and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. The vehicle was impounded for safekeeping and the owner was notified of the recover
