Police Report: November 23-24

November 23rd:

3100 block of Upshur Street: At about 11:30 am officers took a report of lost property. The reporting person told the officers that she lost two Jamaican passports. One of the passports was hers and one was her son’s.

3600 block of Perry Street: At about 1:30 pm officers took a report of a residential burglary. The officers were unable to determine an exact point of entry into the residence. The victim reported numerous items of personal property had been stolen, including jewelry and other items. The victim also told the officers that the person responsible may be a former friend who resided with her at one time. The residence was processed for prints with one possible recovered.

November 24th:

4300 block of 30th Street: At about 3:30 am officers responded for the report of an intruder. When the officers arrived they searched the residence to ensure that the intruder was not still in the home. The victim could only describe the suspect as a male wearing all dark clothing and a ski mask. The officers determined that the man entered the residence through the rear sliding door which was not locked. The victim’s purse was ransacked and keys, cash and Metro cards were stolen. The scene was processed for evidence with negative results.

4600 block of 27th Street: At about 3:20 pm officer responded for the report of a motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival officers found an unoccupied 1997 Honda Accord with front end damage. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen from an address in Prince George’s County earlier in the day. Witnesses reported seeing two subjects fleeing the scene on foot. A search of the area for the two proved negative.

4200 block of Kaywood Drive: At about 8:15 pm officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim/owner told the officers that she parked and locked her vehicle at around 4:00 pm. When she returned 8:00 pm she discovered that someone had smashed out the passenger side window and stolen her stereo. No evidence was recovered.

4300 block of Kaywood Drive: At about 9:25 pm officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that one of the passengers was in possession of marijuana; and a second passenger had four open arrest warrants through Prince George’s County. Both were arrested and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

4200 block of 28th Street: At about 9:45 pm officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim told the officers that she parked and locked her vehicle at 7:30 pm. When she returned to her vehicle at about 9:30 pm she discovered that someone had smashed out the driver’s side window and stolen her iPod.

2700 block of Queens Chapel Road: At about 9:40 pm officers responded to the report of a domestic disturbance. The officers learned that a woman had been assaulted by her intoxicated husband. He was arrested, charged with 2nd degree assault, and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

Community Shredding Day

Please mark you calendars for Saturday July 18th, 2009 for community shredding day. Priority One Shredding of Bowie, Maryland will provide free personal shredding services and secure document destruction from 8 am until 11am at the Bunker Hill Fire Station. Priority One Shredding is a leading provider of personal and business secure document destruction. Residents are welcome to watch their documents being destroyed, and once the shredding process is completed, the remains are locked in the mobile destruction unit until the paper is recycled. Priority One will also provide residents with a variety of identity theft prevention information free of charge. If you miss the community shredding day on July 18th, be sure to bring your bulk documents to National Night Out. Priority One will be onsite from 6-9 pm providing shredding services to residents again, free of charge .

Parking Citation Collection Notices

As you read this entry, many of our residents may have received a collection notice regarding one or more unpaid parking citations. We have received at least a hundred telephone calls, and our Records staff is quite taxed sorting out those notices that were received in error, and those that are legitimate. Just a few notes of caution that I’d like to pass along to help make things easier for all concerned. First, no member of the police department staff will void, cancel or otherwise dispose of a valid collection notice. We are also not authorized to make any payment arrangements or reduce the amount owed to the City. The staff at City Hall is under the same constraints. Persons who receive a collection notice and have concerns that it was issued in error should call the police department during regular business hours and our staff will research the citation.
