Police Report: November 17-19

November 17th:

4500 block of 29th Street: At about 7:15 am officers took a report of a vandalism to auto. The victim told the officers that when she went out to her vehicle this morning she discovered that someone had broken out the driver’s side window. No evidence/witnesses could be found.

2700 block of Webster Street: At about 8:15 am officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim told the officers that when he went out to his rented 2001 BMW this morning he discovered that someone had broken into the vehicle through the passenger side window and stole his iPod. A canvass of the area provided negative results.

3200 block of Chillum Road: At about 8:40 pm officers responded for the report of a suspicious person. The mother of a 26 year old man told the officers that her son suffered from bipolar disorder and had not been taking his medication. While the officers were interviewing the mother, her son became agitated and threatened to kill her and himself. At that point the officers took the man into custody and during a pat down for weapons discovered that he had a steak knife in his back pocket. The officers transported the man to Washington Adventist Hospital so that doctors could conduct an emergency psychiatric evaluation.

November 18th:

4700 block of 27th Street: At about 10:40 am officers took a report of an attempt stolen auto. The victim told the officers that sometime between 8:30 and 10:30 this morning someone broke into his vehicle damaging the driver’s door lock and ignition. A check of the area for evidence/witnesses was negative.

4300 block of 30th Street: At about 10:50 am officers took a report of a stolen auto. The reporting person told the officers that sometime between 9:15 and 10:45 this morning someone stole his father’s vehicle from in front of the father’s residence in the 3200 block of Upshur Street. The son canvassed the neighborhood and discovered his father’s car parked and unoccupied in the 4300 block of 30th Street. The vehicle was processed with negative results and was released to the owner on the scene.

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road (Beauty Depot): At about 8 pm officers took a theft report. The owner of the business told the officers that four suspects, two black females and two black males, walked into the store. While the males distracted the employees the two females stole merchandise valued at approximately $286 from a store display. All four suspects then fled the store on foot towards the Queenstown Apartments complex. A search of the area for the suspects was negative.

November 19th:

4200 block of 34th Street: At about 8:10 am officers received a call for a theft from auto. The victim told the officers that sometime between 6 pm last night and 8 am this morning someone stole all four hubcaps off of his Ford Crown Victoria taxi cab.

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 9 am officers took a report of an attempted theft. The victim told the officers that he was inside his residence when he heard a noise on his deck. He went out to investigate and discovered an Hispanic male attempting to steal his Little Giant Ladder. When the victim confronted the man, he punched the victim and fled on foot. The victim described the suspect as in his 20’s, about 5’08” tall, about 210 lbs and having a thin mustache. He said that the suspect has been seen frequenting the area in the past. A search of the area for the suspect proved negative.

Buchanan Street & Queens Chapel Road: At about 10:30 am officers stopped several suspicious individuals for a field interview. During the interview one of them was found to be in possession of narcotics paraphernalia. He was issued a criminal citation for the offense and sent on his way.

2900 block of Arundel Road: At about 4:30 pm officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim told the officers that sometime between 6 pm on the 17th and 1 pm today someone stole both license plates (MD 36065M2) off his vehicle. No evidence/witnesses could be found.

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: At about 5:20 pm officers took a report of a theft. The officers learned that two men dressed as women entered the business. One of them removed a wig off a model head, placed it in his/her purse and left the store without paying for it.

2400 block of Arundel Road: At about 8:20 pm officers received a call for subjects loitering in the basement of the building. When the officers arrived the subjects ran from the building. The officers observed one of them drop a clear plastic bag later found to contain marijuana. That subject was arrested, charged with CDS possession and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

4600 block of 27th Street: At about 10:25 pm officers responded for the report of a citizen armed robbery. The victim told the officers that as he was entering his apartment building he was approached by two black males about 17-22 years of age wearing all black clothing. They then displayed a handgun, pushed him to the ground and stole his jacket, wallet and keys. The suspects then fled on foot towards Queens Chapel Road and made good their escape. A search of the area for the two proved negative.

3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 11:55 pm officers stopped to investigate an illegally parked vehicle. A check of the vehicle’s registration revealed that there was an MVA pick-up order on the tags. The vehicle was impounded and the driver was issued several State citations.

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi

Police Report: June 9-10

June 9th : 2500 block of Allison Street : At about 1 pm officers took a report of a citizen robbery . The victim told the officers and PGPD robbery detectives that she arrived to meet a client when she was approached by two black males. One of the men approached her from the front; the second came up behind her and placed her in a head lock. The second man demanded the keys to her gold 2005 Honda Accord (MD tags 9FA Y36). The victim complied and the two got into her car and fled the scene. The victim described her assailants as black males about 19-20 years of age. The first man was about 5’8” tall with shoulder length dreadlocks and was wearing a white t-shirt, long jean shorts, white socks and tennis shoes. The second man was about 5’10” tall, also had shoulder length dreadlocks and was wearing a white navy hat. The officers also discovered a white 2004 Chevrolet Express van that is believed to have been driven to the scene by the two suspects. A check of the vehicle’s registration

Boston Marathon/West, Texas Spam Campaigns

There is a new spam campaign in circulation using the Boston Marathon bombings that occurred on April 15, 2013 as a lure. Users are sent an e-mail encouraging them to a watch a video of the explosion. When the user clicks on the enclosed link to watch the video malware is installed on the user’s computer.   The following URL patterns have been found in these e-mails: http://[IP-address]/boston.html   http://[IP-address]/news.html   When the user clicks on one of the links the Kehlios worm is installed on the user’s system which has the capacity to send spam; carry out Distributed Denial of Service Attacks; and steal online currency such as bitcoins. Most major anti-virus vendors have signatures for detecting this malware so users should keep their antivirus programs up-to-date.   In addition to the Boston Marathon spam campaign, a West, Texas plant explosion spam campaign has also sprung up.
