Police Report: April 19-25

The Mount Rainier Police Department’s weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. Some reports may be outside the date parameters due to extended investigations or other circumstances. Some cases are not included at all due to ongoing investigations.

 

April 25th:

 

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: Motor vehicle collision – 11:15am. Officers investigated a collision involving a red scooter. The rider of the scooter was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his non-life threatening injuries.

 

2200 block of Varnum Street (Family Dollar): Theft – 12:20pm. Officers took a report of shoplifting. About $75 of merchandise was stolen by a black male wearing all black.

 

April 24th:

 

3400 block of Newton Place: Citizen robbery – 10:35am. A woman reported that she was robbed of her purse at gunpoint by a black male in his mid-twenties. The victim was not injured and the suspect was tracked by K-9 to the 3600 block of Oak Lane where the track was lost.

 

4300 block of 31st Street: Theft from auto – 12:50pm. The owner of a 2009 Mazda with Virginia plates reported that someone stole the front license plate off his vehicle.

 

3700 block of 36th Street: Burglary supplement – 8:25pm. The resident gave officer a list of items that were stolen in the burglary of her home on April 19th.

 

April 23rd:

 

2800 block of Upshur Street: Burglary – 3:05pm. The resident told officers that she came home and discovered that her house had been broken into and ransacked. Nothing was reported missing at the time of the report.

 

3700 block of 36th Street: Burglary – 7pm. The reporting person told officers that sometime between 10am and 5pm today someone broke into his grandparents’ house and stole several items of personal property.

 

April 22nd:

 

4300 block of Russell Avenue: Vandalism to auto – 2:20pm. The owner of a 2013 Nissan Rogue reported that someone smashed the rear left passenger window of his vehicle.

 

1 Municipal Place: Criminal citation – 7:20pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for an open alcohol violation.

 

4600 block of 29th Street: Vandalism – 9:30pm. The resident told officers that someone threw a rock through her apartment window.

 

April 21st:

 

Nothing significant to report.

 

April 20th:

 

3100 block of Chillum Road (7-11): 2nd degree assault – 1:25am. The store clerk told officers that he was assaulted by a man over the price of a bottle of water. The clerk was pushed into a lottery machine and the suspect hit him with the bottle of water.

 

April 19th:

 

4100 block of 31st Street: Service of a protective order – 10:45am. Officers served a protective order on a woman that was obtained by her brother. The woman left the premises after she was served.

 

3400 block of 36th Street: Burglary – 7:10pm. The resident told officers that she returned home to discover that her house had been burglarized. Entry was made through a second floor bathroom window.

Community Shredding Day

Please mark you calendars for Saturday July 18th, 2009 for community shredding day. Priority One Shredding of Bowie, Maryland will provide free personal shredding services and secure document destruction from 8 am until 11am at the Bunker Hill Fire Station. Priority One Shredding is a leading provider of personal and business secure document destruction. Residents are welcome to watch their documents being destroyed, and once the shredding process is completed, the remains are locked in the mobile destruction unit until the paper is recycled. Priority One will also provide residents with a variety of identity theft prevention information free of charge. If you miss the community shredding day on July 18th, be sure to bring your bulk documents to National Night Out. Priority One will be onsite from 6-9 pm providing shredding services to residents again, free of charge .

Police Report: May 8-11

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi...
