Police Report: March 4-6

March 4th:

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: Theft from auto – 2:15 pm. The owner of a 2003 Dodge van called police to say that she did not know the whereabouts of her van. Officers arrived and located the van to the rear of her address with the engine running. There were minor scratches to the vehicle’s exterior and the two rows of back seats were missing.

4000 block of 36th Street: Residential burglary – 1:45 pm. Officers responded for the report of an activated residential alarm. When officers arrived they observed that someone had thrown a rock through a back door window and made entry into the house. When the homeowner arrived she told officers that a laptop computer was missing. Witnesses told officers that they saw a group of juveniles loitering on a wall in front of the house just prior to the officers’ arrival. One of these juveniles, described as a light skin black or Hispanic male with a stocky build, wearing blue jeans and black hooded sweatshirt, was seen running from the rear of the residence where he jumped the back fence and fled the area.

3100 block of Chillum Road: Attempt theft – 3:15 pm. An employee of the Queenstown Custom Cleaners fled the store after a man came into the store, walked behind the counter and attempted to open the cash register. The man was unable to open the register and fled on foot. MRPD officers along with responding PGPD units searched the area for the individual and were able to locate him a short distance away. He was arrested, charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: Attempt citizen robbery – 6:10 pm. The victim told officers that as he was walking to his apartment he was approached by a black male described as 6’ tall, wearing a black & grey North Face jacket, dark jeans, and a cap. The suspect brandished a handgun and said to the victim “you know what time it is.” The victim pushed suspect and was able to escape into his apartment. The suspect followed and fired one shot striking the apartment door. A search of the area for the suspect proved negative. PGPD robbery detectives responded to assume a follow-up investigation. The victim was not injured.

3200 block of Queens Chapel Road: CDS arrest – 7:30 pm. Officers responded for the report of someone smoking marijuana inside the apartment building. When officers arrived they located the man in question and found him to be in possession of the illegal drug. He was arrested, charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

March 5th:

4200 block of Kaywood Drive: Theft from auto – 12:40 pm. The owner of a 1988 Toyota Corolla showed officers where someone broke into his vehicle through the driver’s side front window and stole a backpack containing school papers. No evidence/witnesses were found.

4500 block of 32nd Street: Domestic assault – 11:55 pm. Officers responded for the report of a domestic dispute. The officers’ investigation revealed that a man and his wife got into an argument that resulted in the wife being physically assaulted. The man was arrested, charged with domestic assault and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

March 6th:

3700 block of 34th Street: Residential burglary – 3 am. Officers were called for the report of an unwanted guest. The resident told the officers that a man had forced his way in through a small kitchen window in the rear of the home. The man was arrested, charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

37th Street & Rhode Island Avenue: 1st degree assault – 4 am. Officers responded for the report of shots fired. When the officers arrived they were flagged down by the victim who told the officers he was assaulted by a man who struck him in the face with a handgun. The gun discharged during the assault. The victim said that the man who assaulted him was presently inside a house in the 3800 block of 37th Street. MRPD officers further determined that the initial assault occurred outside the City and notified PGPD of the incident. When PGPD officers arrived MRPD officers assisted with establishing a perimeter around the suspect’s location. PGPD officers made entry into the house and took the suspect into custody.

4100 block of 31st Street: 2nd degree assault – 2:30 pm. Officers arrested a juvenile for physically assaulting his twin brother. Officers had responded to the residence earlier for an argument that apparently degraded into the physical assault. The juvenile was charged accordingly and because his mother refused to assume custody for him he was delivered to the custody of the State juvenile facility in Cheltenham.

The following information  comes courtesy  of the  New Jersey Cybersecurity & Communications Integration Cell Public cell phone charging stations supplied with power cables or USB ports located in stores, airports, libraries, and schools may seem like a convenient way to charge your mobile devices on-the-go, but can you be sure that your device and data will be safe if you connect? These kiosks can contain concealed computers that attempt to extract data such as contact information, photos, and videos from connected devices, unbeknownst to the users. Additionally, malicious or compromised charging stations can expose devices to the risk of a malware infection. Even if the charging station isn’t malicious, the manufacturer or owner of the kiosk may require users to input their email addresses or phone numbers in order to charge their devices, potentially exposing them to unwanted marketing campaigns, spam emails, and scam calls. Police Report: May 8-11

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi
