Police Report: March 11-13

March 11th:

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: Death report - 8:05 am. Officers responded for the report of an unresponsive man. Further investigation revealed that the man had died of natural causes. Officers assisted the family in making arraignments and necessary notifications.

2700 block of Queens Chapel Road: Recovered stolen vehicle - 10:10 pm. Officers were conducting traffic enforcement assisted by an automatic license plate reader got an alert on a stolen vehicle. Officers stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver. He was charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. The vehicle was impounded for safe keeping, and the reporting jurisdiction (Virginia) was notified of the recovery.

March 12th:

Bunker Hill Road & 31st Street: Traffic - 2 am. Officers stopped a vehicle for multiple equipment violations. Further investigation revealed that the driver had a suspended license. He was issued several citations and his vehicle was impounded.

March 13th:

4600 block of 30th Street: Traffic - 12:50 am. Officers responded for the report of a suspicious occupied vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the driver had a suspended license. He was cited for the violation and, since there was no licensed driver to take custody of the vehicle it was impounded for safekeeping.

2300 block of Varnum Street: Vandalism to auto - 1:00 am. The owner of a 2004 Honda Pilot told officers that sometime between 10:15 pm on March 12th and the time of the report someone smashed out the rear window of his vehicle.

4600 block of 30th Street: Recovered stolen - 1:35 am. Officers patrolling the area using a vehicle equipped with an automatic license plate reader received an alert for a stolen license plate. Further investigation revealed that a parked, unregistered vehicle was displaying two stolen license plates. The plates were recovered and the vehicle was impounded for safekeeping.

3300 block of Chillum Road: Warrant arrest/criminal citation - 4:15 am. Officers stopped a man who they observed urinating in public. Further investigation revealed that the man had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for failing to appear in court on a charge of driving without a license. He was issued a criminal citation for urinating in public and arrested on the warrant. He was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville without further incident.

3400 block of Perry Street: Commercial burglary - 6:30 pm. Officers responded for the report of an open door. When the officers arrived they discovered the building unoccupied with no signs of forced entry. The owner responded to the scene and told the officers that several electronic items were missing from inside. It was determined that the business was inadvertently left unlocked and someone came in and stole the items.

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage. So, the next time you come home for the night and start to put your keys away think of this: Put your car keys beside your bed when you retire for the night.
