Police Report: March 8

34th Street & Windom Road: Motor vehicle collision - 3:30 pm. A man driving a red Chevy truck failed to stop for a stop sign and struck an unmarked MRPD police vehicle. The man then tried to flee the scene. After a short pursuit MRPD units and PGPD SAT officers were able to stop the vehicle on Rainier Avenue. The man was charged with numerous traffic violations including driving an uninsured motor vehicle. His vehicle was impounded. The police vehicle sustained moderate damage to the right front bumper and quarter panel.

3800 block of 32nd Street: Destruction of property - 11:55 pm. Officers spoke with a resident who told them that a man, known to him only as Richard, came to his residence and asked to speak with him. When the resident refused to open the door the man made threats of having a weapon. The victim refused to open the door whereupon the man broke a one of the victim’s windows.

BURGLARY ARREST: At about 3 pm MRPD officers along with three PGPD SAT units began a surveillance of three male juveniles who were suspected of committing several recent burglaries in the City. At about the same time the officers’ surveillance began a witness to a burglary in the 4000 block of 30th Street on Monday March 7th called and identified the three as the ones who committed that crime. After about an hour the officers developed sufficient reasonable suspicion to stop and detain the three for questioning. During questioning one of the three confessed to committing three of the recent burglaries and named the other two as his accomplices. Physical evidence obtained from the three positively linked them to two of those crimes. Two of the three juveniles were charged with several counts of burglary via juvenile petitions and released to their parents/guardians. An investigation to determine their involvement in additional burglaries/crimes is continuing and additional charges are anticipated.

As a result of this arrest the following burglaries have been closed:

- Saturday February 19th in the 4400 block of 30th Street
- Friday March 4th in the 4000 block of 36th Street
- Monday March 7th in the 4000 block of 30th Street

Crime Prevention Tip: Car Alarms

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage. So, the next time you come home for the night and start to put your keys away think of this: Put your car keys beside your bed when you retire for the night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone tries to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, within a few se...
