Police Report: October 30

34th Street at Shepherd Street: At about 4:30 pm officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Investigation revealed that the vehicle's tags were suspended had the driver had an outstanding arrest warrant through Prince George's County. The driver was arrested and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. The vehicle was impounded.

Police Report: October 23-29

Thursday October 23: 4200 block of Russell Avenue: At about 4:15 pm officers arrested an individual for the burglary of a storehouse which had occurred previously on October 21st. The individual was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 3800 block of 33rd Street: At about 4:45 pm officers on patrol conducted a field interview of a suspicious male. During the interview the officers discovered that he was wanted on an open warrant through Prince George’s County for attempted armed robbery, first and second degree assault and illegal possession of a handgun. He was arrested and transported to DOC in Hyattsville without incident 2700 block of Upshur Street: At about 10 pm officers took a report of a stolen Maryland temporary tag 11227H. The victim advised the officers that the tag was probably stolen sometime between 9:30 and 10 pm while he was visiting a family member. Critical Missing Person

Mount Rainier Police and Prince George's County Police are currently attempting to locate a critical missing person last seen on October 24th in the 4600 block of 27th Street. Missing is Ms. Martha Jane Harvin described as a dark-complected black female, 47 years of age, 5'6" tall, 215 lbs., brown eyes, black curly hair, wearing a black 3/4 length coat, black v-neck sweater, blue jeans, white socks, and black low cut classic Reebok tennis shoes. Ms. Harvin may be driving a burgundy 2002 Hyundai Sonata with DC tags CP4483. The vehicle had two Redskins football flags mounted on the rear windows. Anyone with information about Ms. Harvin's whereabouts should call MRPD Communications at 301-985-6565/6566.

Police Report: October 21-22

Tuesday October 21: 3700 block of Wells Avenue: At about 12:30 pm officers responded for the report of a found motorcycle. The complainant told the officers that he found a motorcycle in his back yard with the ignition damaged. An NCIC check revealed that the motorcycle was not stolen and it was impounded for safekeeping while attempts are made to contact the last registered owner. 2700 block of Allison Street: At about 7 pm officers responded for the report of a residential burglary. The officers spoke with the victim whop said that he returned home to find that several video games and a game console along with two pairs of shoes were taken from his apartment. The officers found no damage to the front door or windows to the apartment and therefore could not establish a point of entry. 3249 Rhode Island Avenue (MRPD): At about 7:15 am officers met with an individual who came in to the police station to surrender to an open warrant. He told officers that he received a letter in the mail notifying him that he had an open warrant through Prince George’s County for failure to appear in court. The officers confirmed the existence of the warrant and took the man into custody. He was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville without incident. 4200 block of 31st Street: At about 11:55 am officers responded for the report of an activated residential burglar alarm. When the officers arrived they discovered an open back door. A police K-9 unit responded to search the residence but found no one inside. The owner of the residence along with MRPD officers did a walk through inspection of the house. After the inspection the owner told the officers that she could not find anything missing. Friday October 17: 4300 block of Kaywood Drive: At about 8:45 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The victim/owner told the officers that sometime during the previous night person(s) unknown stole his red 1997 Chevy truck with Maryland tags 12S339. Pieces of broken glass were observed were the vehicle was last parked. A check of area for additional evidence and witnesses proved negative. 3700 block of Quincy Street: At about 11:15 am officers on patrol were conducting random checks of parked vehicles in the located a car with a suspended registration and an MVA pick up order. The tags were removed and the car was impounded. 4400 block of 28th Place: At about 4:15 pm officers responded for the report of a domestic conflict between two brothers. The victim brother told the officers that when he got home his brother began an argument over money allegedly owed to him. 2500 block of Arundel Road : At about 2:15 am officers responded for the report of a theft from auto. The victim told the officers that at about 12:30 am he parked his 2007 Dodge Charger near his residence and when he returned to the car at about 2:10 he discovered that the front driver side door lock was missing and the interior of the vehicle including the front console and glove compartment were severely damaged. His also noted that his stereo/DVR monitor had been stolen. The officers canvassed the neighborhood for additional damaged vehicles and/or suspects with negative results. Webster Street at 29th Street : At about 12:30 am officers responded to a resident complaint of an unoccupied black 1996 Nissan Maxima with Virginia tags XWA4194 that was parked with the driver side window and ignition lock damaged. When the officers arrived they inspected the vehicle and an NCIC check revealed that it had been reported stolen from Alexandria, Virginia. The officers watched the vehicle for

Police Report: October 15

4200 block of Russell Avenue: At about 10 am officers responded for an attempted carjacking/stolen vehicle. When the officers arrived the victim told them that he was approached by two black males in their early twenties who stated that they had a gun and wanted his car. At that time neither of the suspects displayed a weapon. The victim responded by telling them that he too had a gun. He reached into the trunk of his car, grabbed several bottles of water and proceeded to throw them at the two suspects. At this point both suspects gave up on the confrontation and fled the scene. The victim went into his apartment building and once inside realized that he’d dropped his car keys during the altercation. He went back to the parking lot and discovered that his car had been stolen.

Police Report: October 14

3500 block of Otis Street: At about 6:15 am officers responded for the report of a carjacking. The victim initially reported that he was in his parked and idling vehicle waiting for another family member when a lone suspect described as a black male approximately 6’-00” tall, slim build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt approached his vehicle. The suspect opened the car door, grabbed the victim by the chest and pulled him out of the vehicle saying “Get out of the car.” The suspect then jumped into the vehicle and drove off on Otis Street towards 37th Street. The victim was later interviewed by PGPD detectives who were following up on the crime. The victim revised his original account of what took place and told the detectives that he was not in his vehicle at the time of incident. He said that he left his vehicle running and unattended while he went into his residence to check on a family member for whom he was waiting. Friday October 10 : 4300 block of Eastern Avenue : At about 6:30 pm officers responded for the report of a residential burglary. The victim told the officers that when he returned home he noticed that his door was ajar and that there was damage to the lock. Officers ensured that the perpetrator was not still present and the scene was processed for latent fingerprint evidence with negative results. 4000 block of 31st Street : At about 6:50 am officers responded for a reported residential burglary. The victim told the officers that at about 6:15 am her husband left the house for his routine daily walk, leaving the house via the back door. He did not lock the back door when he left. A short time later the victim walked downstairs and heard an unknown individual leave the house through the back door. The victim noticed that her purse was missing from the dining room table. 2500 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 12:25 am officers observed a vehicle stopped in the roadway obstructing traffic. A check of the driver led the officers to believe he was under the influence of alcohol. He submitted to several standard field sobriety tests and failed all of them. He was arrested for DUI, but refused to submit to a breathalyzer exam. He was charged with several traffic offenses in addition to the DUI and his vehicle was impounded. 4700 block of 31st Place : At about 3:45 pm MRPD’s parking enforcement officer observed a blue 1997 Buick Century displaying expired DC tags CJ7417. A check of motor vehicle records showed that the tag did not belong to the vehicle on which it was displayed. The PEO cited the vehicle for the violation and impounded it.

Police Report: October 8

2300 block of Varnum Street (7-11): At about 10:45 am an unknown suspect entered the 7-11 store and stole six bags of Doritos chips and one 12 oz bottle of V8 juice. The suspect then fled the area on foot in unknown direction. A search of the area for the suspect proved negative. 3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 2:30 pm a man reported that he had lost his INS green card. He told officers that he had attended a function in Washington DC and had his green card in his shirt pocket. When he returned home he discovered the card missing/lost. A case number was issued to him to help facilitate replacement of the card. 4000 block of 34th Street (Oscar’s Flower Shop): At about 7:45 pm an employee of the shop called to report a theft that had just occurred. When officers arrived the employee told them that a male individual entered the store, walked behind the counter and began to force open the cash register drawer. 30th and Taylor Streets: At about 10:15 am officers responded for the report of a second degree assault. The victim told the officers that she had been assaulted by the father of her child. She said he bit her on her forearm and punched her in the mouth with a closed fist. She was advised of her rights as a domestic violence victim. The officers offered to escort her to the Hyattsville District Court Commissioner but she refused the escort and said that she did not wish to seek formal charges. A warrant check of the father revealed that he has an outstanding warrant for a previous second degree assault and for violation of probation through Howard County. A canvass of the area for the father was negative. 34th Street and Eastern Avenue: At about 9:50 pm officers stopped a vehicle for failing to stop for a stop sign. While investigating the driver’s circumstances he was found to be in possession of 1.5 grams of marijuana. He was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a CDS.

Police Report: October 6

2500 block of Arundel Road: At about 12:45 am officers responded for a residential burglary in progress. The resident came home to find his front window screen tampered with and a beeping noise coming from inside. Officers checked the apartment and no one was found inside. The suspects removed an electronic game console, a quantity of U.S. currency and a flat screen television. Officers were unable to identify any suspects in the case. 4200 block of 28th Street: At about 2 am officers took a report of a stolen burgundy 1998 Honda Accord with DC tags CV7959. The officers spoke with the vehicle’s owner and determined that the car was stolen sometime between 8:30 pm last night and 1:50 am this morning. A canvass of the area for evidence/witnesses proved negative. 3300 block of Chauncey Place: At about 2:15 pm officers received a call for people loitering, drinking and possibly using narcotics. Police Report: October 2-5

Thursday October 2: 2400 block of Chillum Road: At about 3 pm officers working a traffic detail stopped a vehicle for speeding. When the officers approached the vehicle to speak with the driver they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. As the officer’s investigation progressed they learned that the driver was operating a rental car without the rental agreement in the vehicle nor could ne produce a valid driver’s license. The driver was removed from the vehicle and detained while a search of the vehicle was conducted. The search revealed a pound of marijuana and a large amount of cash. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to DOC in Hyattsville for processing. The vehicle was impounded and forfeiture proceedings were initiated on both the vehicle and the cashed seized from the defendant. 29th and Upshur Streets: At about 9 pm officers responded to a report of an attempted armed robbery. The victims told the officers that they were approached by two black males, one of whom was armed with a hand gun. The suspects stated " I know you got your check. It’s the first of the month. Give up the money !" The suspects did not obtain any money or property from the two victims and fled the scene in an unknown direction. 3400 block of Otis Street: At about 10:45 pm officers met with the victim of an attempted assault at MRPD headquarters. The victim told the officers that while on his way home he observed a 4-door tan colored Toyota Corolla occupied by two black males driving in the 3400 block of Otis Street. The victim said that the Toyota almost caused an accident and he stopped to see what was happening. He then noticed one of the men approaching him and saw that the man was holding a black handgun (revolver). The victim immediately drove away and went to MRPD

Police Report: September 29

3200 block of Queens Chapel Road: At about 12:30 am officers observed vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and effected a traffic stop on the vehicle. After failing standard sobriety tests the driver was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and arrested. 3100 block of Taylor Street: At about 9:30 pm officers responded for the report of a strong arm robbery. The victim told the officers that while unloading parcels from her vehicle she was approached by two males wearing all black clothing including black ski masks. One of the males placed a cold object against her neck implying a weapon and demanded her money. No weapons were observed. The second male took the victim’s purse, and both fled on foot towards Rainier Avenue. A canvass of the area for the two proved negative. PGPD CID/Robbery unit was notified and will handle the follow-up investigation.
