Police Report: October 6

2500 block of Arundel Road: At about 12:45 am officers responded for a residential burglary in progress. The resident came home to find his front window screen tampered with and a beeping noise coming from inside. Officers checked the apartment and no one was found inside. The suspects removed an electronic game console, a quantity of U.S. currency and a flat screen television. Officers were unable to identify any suspects in the case.

4200 block of 28th Street: At about 2 am officers took a report of a stolen burgundy 1998 Honda Accord with DC tags CV7959. The officers spoke with the vehicle’s owner and determined that the car was stolen sometime between 8:30 pm last night and 1:50 am this morning. A canvass of the area for evidence/witnesses proved negative.

3300 block of Chauncey Place: At about 2:15 pm officers received a call for people loitering, drinking and possibly using narcotics. When the officers arrived they observed a male individual drinking from an open container of an alcoholic beverage. He was issued a criminal citation for the violation and sent on his way without further incident.

1 Municipal Place: At about 4:50 pm officers on Segway patrol observed two suspicious males in an area known for various crimes and narcotics violations. The officers requested that the men find some place else to sit. They complied and walked off. As they were leaving the area, one of the men walked into the middle of Rhode Island Avenue in the crosswalk and started yelling and cursing at the officers. He was blocking the passage of traffic and refused to move from the street. He was arrested for disorderly conduct.

3300 block of Chillum Road: At about 7:20 pm an individual came into the police station to report a theft from auto. She told officers that on October 5th between 3:00 am and 8:00 am someone stole the driver’s side mirror and the wheel center caps from her 1992 Acura Legend.

Community Shredding Day

Please mark you calendars for Saturday July 18th, 2009 for community shredding day. Priority One Shredding of Bowie, Maryland will provide free personal shredding services and secure document destruction from 8 am until 11am at the Bunker Hill Fire Station. Priority One Shredding is a leading provider of personal and business secure document destruction. Residents are welcome to watch their documents being destroyed, and once the shredding process is completed, the remains are locked in the mobile destruction unit until the paper is recycled. Priority One will also provide residents with a variety of identity theft prevention information free of charge. If you miss the community shredding day on July 18th, be sure to bring your bulk documents to National Night Out. Priority One will be onsite from 6-9 pm providing shredding services to residents again, free of charge .

Parking Citation Collection Notices

As you read this entry, many of our residents may have received a collection notice regarding one or more unpaid parking citations. We have received at least a hundred telephone calls, and our Records staff is quite taxed sorting out those notices that were received in error, and those that are legitimate. Just a few notes of caution that I’d like to pass along to help make things easier for all concerned. First, no member of the police department staff will void, cancel or otherwise dispose of a valid collection notice. We are also not authorized to make any payment arrangements or reduce the amount owed to the City. The staff at City Hall is under the same constraints. Persons who receive a collection notice and have concerns that it was issued in error should call the police department during regular business hours and our staff will research the citation.
