Police Report: August 28-30

Friday August 28th : 4100 block of 29th Street : At about 4:20 p.m. officers responded for the report of a residential burglary. The victim/resident told the officers that she returned home from work to find several items missing from her residence. Further investigation revealed that the victim’s son was questioned about having a friend over earlier. The son advised that his friend did not commit the crime and that they were sitting on the porch talking about sports. There were no signs of forced entry into the home. A canvass of the area revealed that the son and his friend were the only people seen in the area. An investigation will continue. Saturday August 29th : 2900 block of Arundel Road : At about 12:55 a.m. officers on patrol observed an individual attempting to remove the license plate from a Ford van. When the individual saw the officers he fled on foot leaving the tag behind. The officers were able to catch and detain him until the vehicle’s owner verified that he did not k

Police report: August 27

During the day officers investigated five thefts/attempted thefts from parked motor vehicles. All of the thefts/break-ins were discovered between 7:45 am and 9:30 am. In all but one of the thefts officers were unable to determine how the thieves got into the target vehicles but we are surmising that a slim-jim or pry-type tool was used. Each of the victims/owners told the officers that they were positive that they had locked and secured their vehicles. All of the target vehicles were processed for evidence with negative results and no witnesses or other evidence could be found. 2700 block of Arundel Road : 7:45 am. In this case the thieves broke the passenger side rear window to gain entry. Once inside they stole an electronic device that was inside the glove box. 2700 block of Webster Street : 8:45 am. Police Report: August 26th

2900 block of Arundel Road : At about 8:30 am officers took a report of a stolen tag. The victim/owner told the officers that she came out to her car this morning to discover that her rear tag had been stolen sometime during the night. No evidence or witnesses to the crime could be found. 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 11:45 am officers stopped a vehicle because the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. Further investigation revealed that the driver had an open arrest warrant through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear in court on a possession of CDS charge. He was issued the appropriate seatbelt citation, arrested on the open warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 3200 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 9:15 pm officers stopped a vehicle because it was being driven without tail or brake lights. Further investigation revealed that the driver did not have a valid license in any state. He was issued several state citations

3300 block of Chillum Road : At about 1 pm officers on patrol observed a 2002 Hyundai displaying Maryland tags 31070M5. A MILES/NCIC check revealed that the tags were registered to an Isuzu sport utility vehicle. The tags and the vehicle were both impounded. 3300 block of Chillum Road : At about 10:30 pm officers on patrol observed a 1996 Saturn displaying Maryland tags 2CBB82. A MILES/NCIC check revealed that the tags were registered to a 1996 Lincoln. The tags and the vehicle were both impounded.

Police Report: August 21-23

Friday August 21st: 2500 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a theft of a cell phone. The victim told the officers that she and her boyfriend were in her apartment socializing when he became angry and verbally abusive. The victim told her boyfriend to leave several times but he refused. When the boyfriend finally left the apartment he took the victim’s cell phone with him without her consent. The boyfriend was identified but could not be located at the time of the report. The victim was advised of her options about obtaining a protective order against her boyfriend. 4600 block of 30th Street : At about 6:45 pm officers responded for the report of an out of control individual. The officers met with the complainant who told them that her 19 year old son has a history of mental problems and prior contacts with MRPD was again out of control and assaulted his brother. August 19th : Russell Avenue at Eastern Avenue : At about 10 am officers took a report of a stolen auto. The victim/owner told the officers that she last saw her white 1990 Honda Accord (MD tags 6EZM37) legally parked outside of her residence in the Kaywood Apartments at about 1 am this morning. When she returned for her cat at about 10 am she discovered that it had been stolen. Communications personnel confirmed that the car had not been impounded or repossessed. August 20th : 4200 block of Kaywood Drive : At about 12:40 am officers responded for the report of a citizen armed robbery. The victims (2) told the officers that three black males, approximately 18-20 years of age got out of a dark colored Dodge Caravan (unknown tags) and approached them. One of the men displayed a small dark colored hand gun, possibly a revolver, and robbed both victims of their valuables. The three suspects then fled the area in the Caravan towards Eastern Avenue. August 18th : 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 11:15 am officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Their investigation revealed that the driver had a suspended Maryland license. He was issued the appropriate state traffic citations and his vehicle was impounded for safekeeping. 2800 block of Taylor Street : At about 11:15 am officers responded for the report of a vandalism to auto. The victim/owner showed the officers where someone had flattened the tires on both his Kawasaki motorcycle and his Pontiac Grand-AM. He also told them that he believes that his ex-wife is the one who committed the vandalism since he had recently had her served with a protective order. He did not however see her commit the crime. A check of the area for the ex-wife proved negative and there were no witnesses to the crime. 4600 block of 25th Street : At about 1:40 pm officers took a report of a vandalism to auto. August 17th : 3700 block of 35th Street : At about 12 pm officers investigating a prior burglary developed information on a possible suspect in the case and filed the appropriate supplement report. The investigation continues. 2300 block of Varnum Street : At about 1:30 pm officers took a report of a damaged parking meter. It appeared as if someone struck the meter with a motor vehicle resulting in a bent support pole and a cracked meter head. The meter has been marked for repairs. 3500 block of Perry Street : At about 6:20 pm officers took a report of a residential burglary that occurred sometime between 7 am and when the residents returned home from work. The officers’ investigation revealed that the perpetrators removed the outside screen and entered the kitchen through the interior window which had been left open. Friday August 14th : 3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 4:15 pm officers took a report of a stolen rental car. The business owner told the officers that an individual had failed to return a rental car at the time specified in the rental contract. The owner and the lessee made a subsequent verbal agreement for the car to be returned at a later date and time which was also not honored. Charges were placed on the lessee for failure to return a rented vehicle. 3500 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 8:20 pm officers took a report of a residential burglary. The victim/owner told the officers that he returned home to find that someone had entered his residence, possibly through a window, and stole a quantity of US Currency and several pairs of sneakers. August 13th : 34th Street & Rhode Island Avenue : At about 8:30 am officers responded to a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision. Their investigation revealed that both vehicles were traveling north on Rhode Island Avenue and tried to enter the traffic circle at the same time resulting in the collision. One driver complained of back injuries and was taken by fire/rescue personnel to Prince George’s Hospital Center for treatment. 4200 block of Kaywood Drive : At about 4:30 pm officers took a report of lost license plates. The owner of a 2002 Toyota Celica told the officers that he shipped his vehicle to California and when the vehicle arrived at its destination the tags were missing. 3400 block of Eastern Avenue : At about 7 pm officers responded for the report of an assault. The victim told the officers that he was jumped by a group of males who struck him about his body causing abrasions to his chest and neck. After the assault they fled in an unknown direction. 3800 block of 30th Street : At about 9:30 am officers responded for a suspicious situation. The homeowner told the officers that about ten male individuals knocked on her door and threatened to do bodily harm to her son who is currently out of state attending college. When they discovered that their target was not home they immediately fled the area in varying directions. The officers were unable to identify or locate any of the individuals. 4500 block of 30th Street : At about 9:40 pm officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim/owner of a 2006 Ford SUV told the officers that she parked her vehicle in front of her residence and when she returned she discovered that someone had gained entry into the vehicle and stolen several items from the center console. There were no signs of forced entry. Friday August 7th : 3300 block of Buchanan Street : At about 5 pm officers took a report of a missing juvenile who had returned home. The juvenile’s father told the officers that he and his son got into a verbal argument during the day on August 1st. He left the house and didn’t return until this afternoon. The juvenile told his father that he had stayed at a friend’s house during the time he was missing. 37th & Perry Streets : At about 9:15 pm an MRPD officer was involved in a departmental traffic collision. The officer was stopped at the intersection when his assigned police vehicle was struck by a vehicle turning right onto 37th from Perry. The driver’s side door of the striking vehicle opened unexpectedly and struck the driver’s door of the police car as it passed. When the driver of the striking vehicle got out of his car investigating officers noticed that he had a strong odor of alcohol about him and could barely walk. He failed a field sobriety test but refused to submit to

3300 block of Bunker Hill Road : At about 4:15 pm the owner of a black 1997 Toyota Corolla came out to find that person(s) unknown had damaged the vehicle’s rear bumper. It was undetermined whether the damage was caused by a second motor vehicle or by other means. 3300 block of Perry Street : At about 10:45 pm officers issued a criminal citation to a man who was seen drinking an alcoholic beverage in public.

Police Report: August 5-6

August 5th : 3000 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 9:30 am officers took a report of a stolen auto. The victim/owner told the officers that her vehicle was left parked by her residence the previous evening by a friend. When the owner went to use the car this morning she discovered that it had been stolen. The vehicle was not repossessed or impounded for other reasons. A canvass of the area for witnesses and/or evidence proved negative. 3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 6:30 pm officers received an anonymous tip that an identified individual had an open warrant. Officers were able to locate the individual in question and confirm that he was indeed wanted by the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear in court. He was arrested and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville without incident. Police Report: August 3-4

Monday August 3rd : 4300 block of Russell Avenue : At about 12:05 am officers responded for the report of an armed carjacking that had just occurred. The victim told the officers that as she was retrieving items from her 2003 Acura TI (NY tags BYH5096) when a newer model burgundy van pulled up behind her. She said the van appeared to be occupied by 2-3 individuals. One of those individuals got out of the van and approached her armed with a black semi-automatic handgun. He then ordered her away from the car, took her keys, stole her car and fled the area in an undetermined direction. The armed assailant was described only as wearing a Middle Eastern styled black and white scarf. At about 8:10 pm MRPD was contacted by MPD officers who reported that they had recovered the car in the 5000 block of 12th Street NE. It was drivable and both tags were still attached. The vehicle was unoccupied at the time of recovery and no arrests were made. The victim/owner was notified of the recovery by MP

Police Report: July 31 - August 2

Friday July 31st : Otis Street and Wells Avenue (Mount Rainier South Skate Park) : At about 11 am officers on patrol observed an individual consuming an alcoholic beverage in public. He was issued a criminal citation for the violation and sent on his way. Saturday August 1st : 3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 4:10 am officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. When they approached the driver they observed that he had a strong odor of alcohol about him and was unable to follow the officers’ simple commands. He was arrested and transported to the University of Maryland Police Department for a breath test. Once at the U of MD PD he refused to submit to the blood alcohol test. He was then taken to DOC in Hyattsville where he was charged with DUI/DWI. 4200 block of 28th Street : At about 6:30 am officers took a report of a citizen armed robbery. The victim told the officers that he was walking along the sidewalk when an unknown vehicle pulled up ahead of him and stopped.
