Police Report: August 14-17

Friday August 14th:

3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 4:15 pm officers took a report of a stolen rental car. The business owner told the officers that an individual had failed to return a rental car at the time specified in the rental contract. The owner and the lessee made a subsequent verbal agreement for the car to be returned at a later date and time which was also not honored. Charges were placed on the lessee for failure to return a rented vehicle.

3500 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 8:20 pm officers took a report of a residential burglary. The victim/owner told the officers that he returned home to find that someone had entered his residence, possibly through a window, and stole a quantity of US Currency and several pairs of sneakers.

Saturday August 15th:

4000 block of 32nd Street: At about 1:30 pm officers took a report of a residential burglary. The victim/owner told the officers that he returned home to find that someone had entered his home through a small basement window and ransacked the interior. At the time of the report it was undetermined if anything had been stolen.

Sunday August 16th:

One Municipal Place: At about 3:05 pm officers observed an individual drinking from an open container of an alcoholic beverage. He was issued a criminal citation for the violation and sent on his way.

Monday August 17th (early morning):

4100 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 12:05 am officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that a passenger in the vehicle had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for failing to appear on a DWI charge. The officers also discovered that the driver’s license was suspended/revoked for prior traffic convictions and he was also in possession of a crack pipe. The passenger was arrested on the open warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. The driver was issued a traffic citation for the original traffic violation and a criminal citation for possession of CDS paraphernalia. The driver was released at the scene and the vehicle was impounded for safekeeping.

4100 block of Russell Avenue: At about 4 am officers responded for the report of a citizen armed robbery. The victim told the officers that a black male described as wearing a gray shirt and blue jeans walked up to him, pointed a silver colored handgun at him and demanded his belongings. The victim complied whereupon the suspect fled the area on foot towards Eastern Avenue. A canvass of the area failed to locate the suspect or any additional evidence.
