Police Report: March 30-31

March 30th : 33rd & Perry Streets : At about 4 pm officers were dispatched for the report of suspected drug activity. Communications gave the officers a lookout for a black male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a red/black baseball hat who was allegedly involved in the drug activity. The described individual was located to the rear of an address in the 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue and stopped for a field interview. During the interview the officers discovered that the individual was wanted on an open warrant through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office for failing to appear in court on a charge of theft under $500. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville without further incident. The officers searched the individual incident to his arrest but did not find any drugs or paraphernalia. Police Report: March 27-30

Monday March 30th (early morning) : 4600 block of 29th Street : At about 5:45 am officers took a report of a stolen white 2000 Dodge Caravan bearing Maryland tags 73250CC. The victim/owner told the officers that he parked his van outside his residence Sunday afternoon at about 3 pm. When he returned to the vehicle this morning he discovered that it had been stolen. The officers found no evidence as to how or who was responsible for the theft. Sunday March 29th : 2300 block of Arundel Road (Grand China restaurant) : At about 4:55 am officers responded for the report of a commercial burglary. The owner of the store told the officers that person(s) unknown forced entry into the restaurant through the front glass door and stole seven packs of Newport cigarettes. Nothing else was damaged or stolen. 4300 block of 28th Place : At about 1:25 pm officers took a report of a stolen Maryland license plate. The victim told the officers that sometime prior to his reporting the theft person(s) unkn

4500 block of 34th Street : At about 5:45 pm officers responded to the home of a 12 year old child who was the victim of a 4th degree sexual assault this morning on her way to school. The officers interviewed both the victim and her mother and learned that the child was walking to school at about 7:30 when she was approached by an adult male. The man grabbed the girl’s buttocks, smiled at her and walked away. The girl did not notify school officials during the school day. She told the officers that she would be able to identify the man if she saw him again. A follow up investigation will be conducted including checks of the sex offender registry for possible suspects. Officials at Thomas Stone Elementary are being notified and there will be additional uniformed police presence in the area during school hours. 3200 block of Chillum Road : At about 1:45 am officers responded to the 7-11 store for a disorderly subject who refused to leave the store. When the officers arrived they confronted the man who continued his disorderly behavior and his refusal to leave. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 4500 block of 29th Street : At about 2:15 am officers took two reports of thefts from auto. The first victim/owner told the officers that he heard the sound of his car alarm and ran out of his apartment to investigate. When he got outside he saw a grey colored mini van speeding away. When he inspected his car he discovered that his front passenger side window had been broken out and his portable GPS system had been stolen. He also noticed that possibly the same suspects stole all four wheels off one of his neighbors’ vehicle. He contacted her and had her speak with the officers. She said that she heard t

Police Report: March 23-24

March 24 (early morning) : 2700 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 12:10 am power shift officers discovered a 1999 Chevy van illegally parked at a yellow curb. Further investigation revealed that the tags on the van were supposed to be attached to a 1999 Toyota. The tags were seized and the vehicle was impounded. March 23 : 4200 block of 29th Street : At about 9 am officers on patrol checked the welfare of an individual sleeping in a vehicle. The officers learned that the individual was OK; however he had an open warrant through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office for contempt of court. He was arrested and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville without incident. 3100 block of Windom Road : At about 4:15 pm officers responded for a neighbor dispute. While the officers were talking to the parties and trying to get them calmed down, one of the neighbors struck the other in the head with a clipboard. She was arrested for second degree assault and taken to DOC in Hyatts

March 22 : 4500 block of 32nd Street : At about 12:15 am officers responded for the report of a residential burglary in progress. The caller told Communications that she heard loud banging coming from the back of her residence. The officers arrived and checked the residence finding all secure and nothing disturbed. While investigating this first burglary call the officers were approached by a neighbor who told them that someone had broken into his residence. The owner said that someone had broken a window pane out of his rear basement door, unlocked the door and came inside. Once inside the basement the burglar kicked open an interior door. The owner said that the intruder may have been scared off by something or someone because nothing was taken from his home. 3700 block of Perry Street : At about 1:15 pm officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. During the stop the officers discovered that the driver was in possession of a crack pipe. She was issued both a criminal citation for possession of narcotics paraphernalia and the appropriate traffic citations and released without further incident.

Police Report: March 18-19

March 18 : 3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 8 pm officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver was found to have an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for failure to arrear for a court hearing. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville without incident. One Municipal Place : At about 8:45 pm officers on patrol observed an individual urinating in public. He was issued a criminal citation for the offense and sent on his way without further incident. March 19 (early morning) : 2300 block of Varnum Street (7-11) : At about 4:45 am officers responded for the report of a misdemeanor theft. The store clerk told the officers that a black male entered the store, went directly behind the sales counter and stole approximately twenty packs of Newport cigarettes. The individual ran out of the store and fled on foot in an unknown direction. The clerk described the thief as a black male, approximately 55 years of a

3001 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 7:30 am officers responded for the report of a suspicious person. The complainant told the officers that she saw a man speaking to her child while the child was waiting for the school bus. She was concerned for her child’s safety and called police. The officers were able to locate and speak with the man in question. He denied speaking to the child. The officers checked the man through NCIC and local databases and found that he was not wanted and was not on the sex offender registry. He was sent on his way without further incident. 3500 block of Newton Place : At about 9:30 am officers took a report of a stolen Virginia temporary license tag. The victim told the officers that person(s) unknown apparently stole the tag sometime during the pervious night. March 16 : 3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 3:30 am officers were working a surveillance detail along Rhode Island Avenue in an attempt to identify the person(s) responsible for breaking into numerous City parking meters. The officers observed a female individual break into and steal coins from three meters. She was arrested, charged with malicious destruction of property and theft, and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 3000 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 7:45 am officers responded for the report of a theft from auto. Their investigation revealed that sometime during the early morning hours person(s) unknown stole all four wheels and tires off the victim’s 2001 Cadillac DTS. The perpetrators were also able to break into the car and disable the alarm. March 13 : Arundel Road at 29th Street : At about 2:30 pm officers investigated a personal injury traffic accident. Their investigation revealed that a 6-year old child ran into the roadway from between two parked cars and was struck. The child was treated at the scene by Fire/Rescue personnel and transported to Prince George’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The child’s parents were present at the scene and accompanied their daughter to the hospital. No charges were placed against the driver of the striking vehicle. March 14 : 3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 8:30 pm officers responded to investigate a hit and run traffic accident. Their investigation revealed that an underage, unlicensed driver driving a Ford Expedition struck a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser. The Expedition fled the scene leaving behind the front tag. March 11 : Nothing significant to report. March 12 : 4200 block of Russell Avenue: At about 2:10 am officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim told the officers that he parked his vehicle in front of his apartment at about 1 am. When he returned an hour later he discovered that all four wheels and tires had been stolen. This is the third time this victim and vehicle had been targeted in the same manner. An extensive canvass of the area failed to uncover any evidence or witnesses to the crime.

Police Report: March 10

3500 block of Perry Street : At about 9:45 pm officers responded for the report of an Hispanic-looking man carrying a shotgun. The officers thoroughly canvassed the area for the individual but could not locate anyone matching the limited description given by the complainant, and no one was seen in carrying any weapon in the area. 4000 block of 34th Street : At about midnight officers were dispatched to investigate an alarm off. The officers checked the establishment in question, found it to be secure and cleared the call as a false alarm. 3700 block of Shepherd Street : At about 9:30 am officers responded for the report of a possible stolen vehicle. When the officers arrived they discovered a red Honda Civic with a damaged ignition and no wheels or tires. An initial NCIC check showed that it had not been reported stolen. The officers were able to locate a phone number for the owner who confirmed that the vehicle should have been parked outside his residence in Glen Burnie and not in Mo

Task Force Report: March 9

At least one day each month MRPD’s power shift officers work on a joint task force with officers from the Maryland-National Capital Park Police. The purpose of this task force is to find and address criminal activity on M-NCPPC property and on properties that border our local parks. The officers concentrate their patrol and surveillance activities on the park areas in Mount Rainier, Hyattsville, and Brentwood, and in other areas where criminal activity has been identified. On March 9th the task force made the following arrests: 4300 block of Bladensburg Road : At about 2:45 pm the task force officers were stopped by a citizen who informed them of a possible theft in progress. The officers found the individuals described by the witness. The officers’ investigation revealed that the individuals were not involved in committing a theft, however one of the individuals was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant. 3209 Rhode Island Avenue : At about 9 pm officers on patrol observed what they believed to be a hand to hand drug transaction. The officers approached one of the participants and ordered him to stop for questioning. He immediately tried to flee the scene and avoid the officers. A brief foot chase ensued with the individual ignoring the officers’ repeated commands to stop. One of the officers deployed his department issued Taser weapon and the individual immediately stopped his flight. He was arrested without further incident and without injury. The officers recovered a small amount of cocaine from the individual and also learned that he had outstanding arrest warrants through the U.S. Marshall’s Service for both assault and armed robbery. He was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville and charged with several narcotics related offenses. Thursday March 5: 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 10:05 am officers responded for a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the parking lot. When the officers arrived they located the vehicle and interviewed the occupants. During the interview a female passenger was found to be in possession of narcotics paraphernalia. She was issued a criminal citation for the crime and sent on her way without further incident. Friday March 6 : 2700 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 11:45 pm officers responded for the report of a theft. The victim told the officers that when she received her monthly checking account statement she noticed a sizeable charge to her account which she did not authorize. She contacted her bank and reported the unauthorized charge and the bank told her that they needed a police report in order to initiate an investigation. Police Report: March 4

4700 block of 31st Place : At about At about 8:30 pm PGPD received a call for a citizen robbery that had just occurred in the 2400 block of Queens Chapel Road. MRPD power shift officers responded to assist County units with the call. The power shift officers were the first to arrive and obtained a lookout for a man who had just robbed a woman at knife-point. The officers broadcast the lookout for the suspect to responding PGPD units and immediately started to look for the suspect who was last seen running towards the Queens Manor area. After about a 15 minute search the power squad officers located the suspect hiding behind a garbage dumpster in the 4700 block of 31st Place. The victim positively identified the suspect and he was arrested.

Police Report: February 27-March 1

Friday February 27 : 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 11:25 am officers responded to check the welfare of a resident. The resident’s mother was concerned about her son’s wellbeing. When the officers arrived they found the front door to the apartment ajar, and when they entered they discovered a large amount of blood throughout the apartment and the resident missing. The officers along with detectives from PGPD District I began a search for the individual. After about an hour we discovered that he had been admitted to Prince George’s Hospital suffering from a wrist laceration. It is believed that the individual had attempted suicide. His self-inflicted injuries were not deemed life threatening. 4200 block of Russell Avenue : At about 7 pm officers responded for the report of a first degree assault and attempted robbery.
