Police Report: March 9

3209 Rhode Island Avenue: At about 9 pm officers on patrol observed what they believed to be a hand to hand drug transaction. The officers approached one of the participants and ordered him to stop for questioning. He immediately tried to flee the scene and avoid the officers. A brief foot chase ensued with the individual ignoring the officers’ repeated commands to stop. One of the officers deployed his department issued Taser weapon and the individual immediately stopped his flight. He was arrested without further incident and without injury. The officers recovered a small amount of cocaine from the individual and also learned that he had outstanding arrest warrants through the U.S. Marshall’s Service for both assault and armed robbery. He was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville and charged with several narcotics related offenses. He was also detained pending the arrival of the Marshall’s Service.

3200 block of Queens Chapel Road: At about 8 am officers responded for the report of a suspicious vehicle. When they arrived they discovered a green 2009 Ford Crown Victoria with its rear window broken out and the ignition punched out. Further investigation revealed that the car had been reported stolen through the Metropolitan D.C. Police. The car was impounded for safekeeping. MPD and the owner were notified of the recovery.
