At least one day each month MRPD’s power shift officers work on a joint task force with officers from the Maryland-National Capital Park Police. The purpose of this task force is to find and address criminal activity on M-NCPPC property and on properties that border our local parks. The officers concentrate their patrol and surveillance activities on the park areas in Mount Rainier, Hyattsville, and Brentwood, and in other areas where criminal activity has been identified. On March 9th the task force made the following arrests:
4300 block of Bladensburg Road: At about 2:45 pm the task force officers were stopped by a citizen who informed them of a possible theft in progress. The officers found the individuals described by the witness. The officers’ investigation revealed that the individuals were not involved in committing a theft, however one of the individuals was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant. Because the incident occurred in Park Police jurisdiction the park officers handled the warrant service.
37th Place & Quincy Street (Brentwood): At about 4:15 pm the task force officers observed a suspicious individual loitering in a known drug area. Officers stopped the individual for a field interview and checked his wanted status through NCIC. He was found to have an open warrant for driving without a license. He was arrested without incident and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.
