Police Report: March 20-22

March 22:

4500 block of 32nd Street: At about 12:15 am officers responded for the report of a residential burglary in progress. The caller told Communications that she heard loud banging coming from the back of her residence. The officers arrived and checked the residence finding all secure and nothing disturbed. While investigating this first burglary call the officers were approached by a neighbor who told them that someone had broken into his residence. The owner said that someone had broken a window pane out of his rear basement door, unlocked the door and came inside. Once inside the basement the burglar kicked open an interior door. The owner said that the intruder may have been scared off by something or someone because nothing was taken from his home. The officers processed the scene for evidence and canvassed the area both with negative results.

4100 block of 34th Street: At about 1:50 am officers met the victim of a strong armed robbery at the police station. The victim told the officers that she was walking in the area of 34th Street and Bunker Hill Road when she noticed a man and a woman walking behind her. She said that both individuals approached her and told her to give them her money. When she replied that she had no money they pushed her to the ground, punched her in the face and stole her cell phone, keys and a small quantity of US currency. Both assailants then fled the area in an unknown direction. The suspects were described as:

#1 – black male, about 5’9” tall, 140 lbs., wearing all black clothing;
#2 – black female, about 5’9” tall, 140 lbs., wearing all black clothing.

3300 block of Chillum Road (7-11): At about 2:50 am officers responded for the report of a misdemeanor theft. A store employee told the officers that two younger looking black males wearing all dark clothing ran into the store and stole several items from the store’s shelves and freezers. Both individuals were last seen running away from the store towards Queens Chapel Road. The officers checked the area for the thieves with negative results.

3400 block of Eastern Avenue: At about 5:30 pm officers responded for the report of a burglary in progress. When the officers arrived they searched the vacant house and found an individual hiding in the attic. The individual was arrested and charged with 4th degree burglary and trespassing. The individual was also found to have an open warrant for driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated through Montgomery County. He was processed and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

March 20:

4300 block of Russell Avenue: At about 9:50 pm officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an equipment violation. The driver was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for violating a protective order. He was arrested on the warrant, issued two traffic citations and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

Community Shredding Day

Please mark you calendars for Saturday July 18th, 2009 for community shredding day. Priority One Shredding of Bowie, Maryland will provide free personal shredding services and secure document destruction from 8 am until 11am at the Bunker Hill Fire Station. Priority One Shredding is a leading provider of personal and business secure document destruction. Residents are welcome to watch their documents being destroyed, and once the shredding process is completed, the remains are locked in the mobile destruction unit until the paper is recycled. Priority One will also provide residents with a variety of identity theft prevention information free of charge. If you miss the community shredding day on July 18th, be sure to bring your bulk documents to National Night Out. Priority One will be onsite from 6-9 pm providing shredding services to residents again, free of charge .
