Police Report: March 30-31

March 30th:

33rd & Perry Streets: At about 4 pm officers were dispatched for the report of suspected drug activity. Communications gave the officers a lookout for a black male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a red/black baseball hat who was allegedly involved in the drug activity. The described individual was located to the rear of an address in the 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue and stopped for a field interview. During the interview the officers discovered that the individual was wanted on an open warrant through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office for failing to appear in court on a charge of theft under $500. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville without further incident. The officers searched the individual incident to his arrest but did not find any drugs or paraphernalia.

March 31st (early morning):

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: At about Midnight officers on patrol received a Lo-Jack hit on a stolen black 2005 Chevy Suburban with Maryland tags 870M347. While the officers were checking the area for the stolen Chevy they lost the Lo-Jack signal and were unable to locate it. At about 2:50 am the officers again acquired the Lo-Jack signal. This time they got additional assistance from Hyattsville PD officers and were able to locate and stop the vehicle. The driver was arrested and charged with motor vehicle theft and several traffic related charges. The victim/owner of the Suburban was notified that her vehicle had been recovered and responded to the scene to pick it up.

Crime Prevention Tip: Car Alarms

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage. So, the next time you come home for the night and start to put your keys away think of this: Put your car keys beside your bed when you retire for the night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone tries to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, within a few se...
