Police Report: June 2

Chillum Road at Queenstown Drive: At about 7 am officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The officers discovered that the driver had an open warrant through the Prince George's County Sheriff’s Department. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. His vehicle was impounded.

4000 block of 34th Street: At about 8:05 am officers responded for the report of a commercial burglary. When the officers arrived they spoke with the owner of Oscar’s Florist who told them that sometime between close of business on the 1st and the time he called someone broke the front door glass, entered the store and stole various items of property. The shop was processed for evidence with negative results.

One Municipal Place: At about 9 am officers on foot patrol observed an individual consuming an alcoholic beverage in public. He was issued a criminal citation for the violation (his 10th) and sent on his way.

3400 block of Shepherd Street: At about 12:45 pm officers took a report of a theft. The victim told the officers that she left her purse in her vehicle with the door unlocked while she went shopping. Upon returning to her vehicle she found her purse was missing. A canvass of the area gave the officers no clues as to who may have been responsible for the theft.

4000 block of 34th Street: At about 8:10 pm officers from the power shift observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation. They stopped the vehicle for the violation and later discovered that one of the passengers had an open warrant through Prince George’s County for failure to appear in court. He was arrested on the warrant. A search of his person incident to the arrest revealed a PCP-dipped cigarette. Investigating further, the officers found the driver in possession of marijuana. He was also arrested. The total amount of narcotics seized has a street value of over $300.00. Both subjects were delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

38th & Shepherd Streets: At about 10:00 pm officers from the power shift were patrolling the area when they observed three subjects loitering that are known drug users. All three were stopped for a field interview. During the interview one of the three was found in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was issued a criminal citation and all were sent on their way.

Community Shredding Day

Please mark you calendars for Saturday July 18th, 2009 for community shredding day. Priority One Shredding of Bowie, Maryland will provide free personal shredding services and secure document destruction from 8 am until 11am at the Bunker Hill Fire Station. Priority One Shredding is a leading provider of personal and business secure document destruction. Residents are welcome to watch their documents being destroyed, and once the shredding process is completed, the remains are locked in the mobile destruction unit until the paper is recycled. Priority One will also provide residents with a variety of identity theft prevention information free of charge. If you miss the community shredding day on July 18th, be sure to bring your bulk documents to National Night Out. Priority One will be onsite from 6-9 pm providing shredding services to residents again, free of charge .

Parking Citation Collection Notices

As you read this entry, many of our residents may have received a collection notice regarding one or more unpaid parking citations. We have received at least a hundred telephone calls, and our Records staff is quite taxed sorting out those notices that were received in error, and those that are legitimate. Just a few notes of caution that I’d like to pass along to help make things easier for all concerned. First, no member of the police department staff will void, cancel or otherwise dispose of a valid collection notice. We are also not authorized to make any payment arrangements or reduce the amount owed to the City. The staff at City Hall is under the same constraints. Persons who receive a collection notice and have concerns that it was issued in error should call the police department during regular business hours and our staff will research the citation.
