Police Report: June 3-6

June 3rd:

Chillum Road & Buchanan Street: At about 7:40 am officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Subsequent investigation revealed that the driver had an open warrant through Prince George’s County for failure to appear in court on a charge of driving on a suspended license. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

2900 block of Queens Chapel Road: At about 11:40 am officers responded to a domestic dispute. Further investigation revealed that the male half of the dispute had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for failure to appear in court on a charge of driving without a license. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3100 block of Chillum Road: At about 6:30 pm officers responded for the report of a robbery that had just occurred. Upon arrival the officers learned that three black males entered the business armed with handguns. They forced the business owner to the rear of the business and forced her to lie on the ground. They then removed the cash register drawer and the victim’s purse. All three then fled the area a silver/grey Acura TSX with DC tags CZ 5014. The victim described the three suspects as black males, 18-20 years of age, 5’06” to 5’ 07” tall wearing masks over their faces. The description of the three suspects and their getaway car match the description of a group that has committed numerous robberies throughout Prince Georges County, Montgomery County and the District of Columbia.

Chillum Road & Buchanan Street: At about 11:45 pm officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver was intoxicated. He was arrested and transported to the Greenbelt Police Station for blood alcohol testing and arrest processing. The vehicle he was driving was impounded.

June 4th:

4500 block of Eastern Avenue: At about 7:30 am officers took a theft from auto report. The victim told the officers that while getting gas a black male opened her unlocked car door and stole her purse. The thief was last seen getting into a silver Toyota which fled up Eastern Avenue.

4000 block of 29th Street: At about 7:30 am officers took a theft from auto report. The victim/owner told the officers that sometime prior to her reporting the theft someone broke the locks on both doors, entered her vehicle, unlocked the hood and stole the vehicle’s battery. The vehicle was processed for evidence with negative results.

3700 block of Otis Street: At about 3:30 pm officers issued a man a criminal citation for possessing an open container of an alcoholic beverage.

3800 block of 34th Street: At about 5:20 pm officers issued a man a criminal citation for possessing an open container of an alcoholic beverage.

2200 block of Varnum Street: At about 10:45 pm officers observed a man drinking an alcoholic beverage in public. When the man saw the officers he started to walk away. When the officers stopped him he elbowed one of the officers in the stomach and began to run away. After a brief foot chase the officers caught him, but when they tried to place him under arrest he began to fight. The officers were forced to deploy a department issued Taser to get him under control and under arrest. The officers transported him to DOC in Hyattsville for processing. During processing the officers discovered that he had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for possession with intent to distribute a CDS (which was likely the reason he tried to get away). In addition to being charged with the open alcohol violation he was also charged with assault on a police officer and fleeing and eluding. He was left in the custody of DOC.

June 5th:

4200 block of Russell Avenue: At about 12:15 am officers responded for the report of a man harassing his ex girlfriend. Further investigation revealed that the man in question had an open arrest warrant through the Prince George’s County Sherriff’s Office for violating an ex parte order. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. Since he had left his Ford pickup truck parked blocking the roadway it was impounded.

June 6th:

3700 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 11 am officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for failing to appear in court on a charge of driving without a license. She was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. Her vehicle was released to a friend who was a licensed driver.

Crime Prevention Tip: Car Alarms

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage. So, the next time you come home for the night and start to put your keys away think of this: Put your car keys beside your bed when you retire for the night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone tries to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, within a few se...
