Police Report: June 7

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 8:40 am officers issued two men criminal citations for consuming alcoholic beverages in a public place.

4200 block of Russell Avenue: At about 9:45 am officers on patrol observed a red Dodge Caravan with a damaged ignition and door locks. A check of the van through NCIC revealed that it had been reported stolen to the Prince George’s County Police on May 31st. The van was impounded for safekeeping and the owner was notified of the recovery.

3200 block of Varnum Street: At about 3 pm officers responded for the report of a domestic altercation. Their investigation revealed that a man and his nephew became involved in an argument that resulted in the nephew striking the uncle in the face and causing him serious injuries. The nephew was arrested, charged with assault and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. The uncle was transported to Prince George’s Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Police Report: September 4-8

September 4 th : 2500 block of Queens Chapel Road : Emergency petition – 4:50 am. Officers on patrol observed a highly intoxicated man walking through on-coming traffic carrying two 14” long kitchen knives. When the officers stopped the man and ordered him to drop the knives he refused and said that he wanted to die and was going to kill himself. The officers also observed that the man was bleeding from his mouth and had blood on the back of his shirt. A member of the man’s family arrived on the scene and convinced the man to drop the knives and, after a brief struggle officers were able to get him under control. Fire/rescue personnel arrived to transport the man to the hospital and during their on-scene evaluation officers observed that he had a large amount of shattered glass in his hair and on his face along with several long cut/scratch markings on his back just above his waist line. Police Report: May 8-11

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description).
