August 27th : 3200 block of Chillum Road : At about 4:20 pm officers took a report of a robbery . The victim told the officers that on May 18th, 2010 at about 7 pm she was in the process of parking her car when two Hispanic males reached into her car and tried to take her purse. The victim tried to hold onto the purse but after a brief struggle with the two men they were able to wrestle it away from her and flee on foot in an unknown direction. The victim declined to give a reason for the delay in reporting the incident and no additional information was obtained. 4200 block of 28th Street : At about 5 pm officers responded for the report of a vehicle blocking a private driveway . The officers found a gray 2005 Kia Optima with Virginia tags blocking the driveway. Attempts to locate the owner/operator of the vehicle were unsuccessful. August 26th : 4100 block of Russell Avenue : At about 1:45 pm officers took a death report . The officers were told by the decedent’s caretaker that she came to check on him and discovered him unconscious and unresponsive. Fire/rescue personnel were summoned and attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. Information received from family members and the medical examiner indicated that he died from natural causes. No foul play is suspected. The medical examiner removed the decedent’s remains for post mortem examination. August 27th (early morning) : 3800 block of 31st Street : At about 5:15 am officers responded for the report of two pit bulls running loose and attacking citizens. The officers found the dogs in question and were immediately attacked by both dogs. The officers took refuge in their cars and summoned Prince George’s Animal Control officers. While waiting for animal control a man delivering newspapers was attacked by both dogs as he tried to find safety on a front porc

3210 Rhode Island Avenue : At about 2:30 pm officers observed an individual loitering in the alley to the rear of the address. A field interview was conducted after the officers observed the individual discard a brown paper bag. As part of the interview the officers inspected the contents of the bag and discovered that it contained two grams of crack cocaine. The individual was arrested, charged with various CDS offenses and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 4200 block of Russell Avenue : At about 6:45 pm officers responded for a landlord tenant dispute . The tenant told the officers that she was inappropriately touched on her buttocks by a sub contractor of the apartment complex. Along with touching the victim the sub contractor allegedly made sexual advances towards her. The incident allegedly occurred in December of 2009. A report was written and will be sent to PGPD detectives for a follow up investigation. 3300 block of Chillum Road : At about 9:45 pm officers w

2700 block of Arundel Road : At about 12:20 am officers took a report of a motor vehicle tampering in progress. By the time the officers arrived the suspects had fled the area. The officers observed that both door locks and the ignition of a silver Dodge Caravan had been punched out in an attempt to steal the vehicle. The officers were unable to locate or contact the registered owner of the van. No evidence was recovered and no witnesses could be identified. 4600 block of 29th Street : While canvassing the area in response to the tampering described above officers stopped a suspicious individual for a field interview. During the interview the officers discovered that the man had an open arrest warrant through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office for second degree assault. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

August 20th : 3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 1 am officers were called to investigate a suspicious vehicle . The officers located the vehicle and proceeded to conduct field interviews of its passengers. During the interviews one of the passengers was found to have an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for contempt of court. When the officers tried to place him under arrest he struck one of them and fled on foot. A canvas of the area was conducted and he was located in the 3900 block of Bunker Hill Road. The officers were forced to deploy both their issued Taser weapon and OC spray in order to get control of the individual and place him under arrest. He was charged with 2nd degree assault, resisting arrest and other charges and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 3000 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 10 am officers took a report of a vandalism to auto . The victim/owner told the officers that he parked his vehicle by his residence on A

August 13th : 34th Street and Windom Road : At about 9:15 am officers stopped a vehicle because the driver was not wearing a seatbelt . Further investigation revealed that the driver did not have a license. He was cited for both violations and his vehicle was impounded. 3200 block of Varnum Street : At about 3:20 pm officers issued criminal citations to three individuals for drinking alcoholic beverages in public. August 14th : 5600 block of Annapolis Road : At about 3:30 am MRPD officers assisted Bladensburg Police with several large fights and crowd control at the Mexico Lindo. MRPD officers deployed pepper spray on a highly intoxicated combative individual who was arrested for assaulting a Bladensburg Police Officer. No Mount Rainier or Bladensburg Officers were injured. 3500 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 6:20 am officers took a report of vandalism to a building. Sometime during the previous night someone had spray painted graffiti on the building that matched

August 6th : 3800 block of 34th Street : At about 11:40 am MRPD officers assisted Federal authorities with the execution of an arrest warrant on an individual wanted in Montgomery County on CDS charges. The individual was located and arrested without incident. 4500 block of 32nd Street : At about 12:10 pm officers were called to investigate an abandoned vehicle . A check of the unoccupied vehicle revealed it to have been reported stolen through PGPD. The vehicle was impounded for safekeeping and the owner notified of the recovery. 4100 block of 33rd Street : At about 1:45 pm officers took a report of a residential burglary . The resident told the officers that he received a call from his alarm company that his residential burglar alarm had been activated. He immediately went home and discovered a bathroom window open with a ladder under the window and called police. The officers checked the residence and found no sign of forced entry and no property missing. The resident told th

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for the D.C. area, effective from late morning to late evening tomorrow (Wednesday). Low pressure is expected to develop along a stalled frontal boundary, causing showers and thunderstorms with heavy rain beginning early Wednesday morning, peaking in late afternoon and evening and continuing into Thursday morning. Rainfall in excess of 2 inches is expected, with localized amounts exceeding 3 inches expected in the south and east suburbs.

The City of Mount Rainier is experiencing major intermittent power outages as a result of the storm that passed through the metropolitan region this morning. City Hall has some power (phone lines and computers) but the alarm, A/C and some office lights are out. The MRPD has absolutely no phone lines and only one working computer at the moment. Public Works also has limited power. We have reported the power outages for the City offices. We have been on hold with Verizon for the past hour trying to report the problem at the police department. MRPD/Bladensburg police communications lines are up and running. August 5th : 3700 block of 34th Street : At about 3:20 pm officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking an alcoholic beverage in public. 3300 block of Buchanan Street : At about 8:30 pm officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking an alcoholic beverage in public. 3200 block of Perry Street : At about 9 pm MRPD officers assisted PGPD officers with a narcotics arrest . The PGPD officers observed what they believed to be a hand to hand drug transaction. Both the buyer and seller were stopped and eventually arrested and charged with various narcotics related crimes. 31st and Webster Streets : At about 11 pm officers responded for several reports of shots fired . Upon arrival the officers were redirected to the area of Chillum Road and Queens Chapel Road where a victim reported he was being chased by a man with a gun. The victim told the officers that a man fired several shots at him and his tow truck while he was repossessing a vehicle. The officers were able t

Further investigation revealed that the driver had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for failure to pay child support.  His driver’s license was suspended for the same reason. He was issued several State traffic citations, arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 2800 block of Upshur Street : At about 8:30 am officers took a death report . A 72 year old man was found deceased inside his residence. August 2nd : 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 11 am officers issued a man a criminal citation for consuming an alcoholic beverage in public. Mount Rainier Elementary School : At about 11:15 pm officers MRPD officers assisted PGPD officers with apprehending two individuals who tried to burglarize the school . MRPD officers monitoring PGPD radio communications heard the call go out and arrived at the school with minutes. Once on the scene they saw two individuals running away from the school. The officers along with a PGPD officer chased both individuals on foot. Both were quickly caught and arrested. A PGPD K9 searched inside the school for additional suspects with negative results. July 30th : 3300 block of Buchanan Street : At about 9:45 pm officers took a report of a theft from auto . The victim told the officers that someone stole the rear license plate (MD 8BRX81) off his 1998 Oldsmobile sometime between 6 am and the time he notified police. No evidence or witnesses could be found. July 31st : 3500 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 1:20 am officers on patrol recovered a 1999 Chrysler (MD tags 7ELP28) that had been reported stolen earlier in the evening from an address in DC. The officers initially saw the vehicle operating at a high rate of speed in the 3600 block of Bunker Hill Road. They followed it to the dead end of 35th Street where it crashed through the fence, drove down the hill and came to rest on Rhode Island Avenue. The driver and front seat passenger were seen exiting the vehicle running to the rear of 3500 Rhode Island Avenue. A Greenbelt Police K-9 was able to track the two to the area of Perry and 37th Streets before losing the tr
