Police Report: August 26-27

August 26th:

4100 block of Russell Avenue: At about 1:45 pm officers took a death report. The officers were told by the decedent’s caretaker that she came to check on him and discovered him unconscious and unresponsive. Fire/rescue personnel were summoned and attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. Information received from family members and the medical examiner indicated that he died from natural causes. No foul play is suspected. The medical examiner removed the decedent’s remains for post mortem examination.

August 27th (early morning):

3800 block of 31st Street: At about 5:15 am officers responded for the report of two pit bulls running loose and attacking citizens. The officers found the dogs in question and were immediately attacked by both dogs. The officers took refuge in their cars and summoned Prince George’s Animal Control officers. While waiting for animal control a man delivering newspapers was attacked by both dogs as he tried to find safety on a front porch. In an attempt to protect themselves and the delivery man the officers were forced to shoot one of the dogs. The dogs ceased their attack and both ran from the scene. Once Animal Control officers arrived a search for the dogs was conducted. One of them was located on a front porch in the 3800 block of 31st Street; the other was found a few doors up suffering from one gunshot wound. Both dogs were taken into Animal control custody. The owner of the dogs was identified and charges are pending Animal Control’s follow-up investigation.

Crime Prevention Tip: Car Alarms

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage. So, the next time you come home for the night and start to put your keys away think of this: Put your car keys beside your bed when you retire for the night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone tries to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, within a few se...
