Storm Outages

The City of Mount Rainier is experiencing major intermittent power outages as a result of the storm that passed through the metropolitan region this morning. City Hall has some power (phone lines and computers) but the alarm, A/C and some office lights are out. The MRPD has absolutely no phone lines and only one working computer at the moment. Public Works also has limited power.

We have reported the power outages for the City offices. We have been on hold with Verizon for the past hour trying to report the problem at the police department. MRPD/Bladensburg police communications lines are up and running.

Anyone with an emergency should call 911.

For all non-emergency calls to MRPD, residents should contact the dispatch line directly at 301-985-6565 or 6566.

Please notify all of those on your list serv to report their respective outages by calling 1-877-PEPCO-62. Each and every property has to do this in order for PEPCO to understand that magnitude of the outages and that the power outages are affecting several businesses and homeowners.

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Police Report: September 4-8

September 4 th : 2500 block of Queens Chapel Road : Emergency petition – 4:50 am. Officers on patrol observed a highly intoxicated man walking through on-coming traffic carrying two 14” long kitchen knives. When the officers stopped the man and ordered him to drop the knives he refused and said that he wanted to die and was going to kill himself. The officers also observed that the man was bleeding from his mouth and had blood on the back of his shirt. A member of the man’s family arrived on the scene and convinced the man to drop the knives and, after a brief struggle officers were able to get him under control. Fire/rescue personnel arrived to transport the man to the hospital and during their on-scene evaluation officers observed that he had a large amount of shattered glass in his hair and on his face along with several long cut/scratch markings on his back just above his waist line.
