Police Report: December 15

3400 block of Eastern Avenue: At about 6 pm officers working the power shift responded for the report of individuals trespassing in an abandoned house. The officers found two individuals inside the house and arrested them for trespassing. Public Works was contacted and advised of the need to re-secure the house.

4300 block of 54th Street (Bladensburg): At about 7:50 pm officers were called to assist Bladensburg PD with a shooting/hostage barricade situation. MRPD officers assisted BPD with establishing a secure perimeter around a private residence. After a brief standoff a subject surrendered to police. MRPD officers assisted with ensuring that the residence was safe and immediately thereafter returned to patrol in Mount Rainier.

3700 block of 36th Street: At about 10:30 pm officers responded for the report of the sound of shots fired. When the officers arrived they found an adult male lying on the ground and bleeding from the nose in the driveway of a private residence. The man told the officers that he was shot in the head by an unknown subject. He refused to cooperate any further. Once medical personnel arrived on the scene and examined the man it was determined that he had not been shot. He had hit his nose and face on the ground while running from unknown subject(s) who were shooting at him. The man was transported to Prince George's Hospital for observation and was listed in good health. Three .40 caliber shell casings were located in the street at the scene of the incident. Two jacketed .40 caliber bullets were also recovered from the front door and wall of a residence located in the 3500 block of Perry Street. PGPD detectives responded to the scene to assume the follow-up investigation. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time.

Parking Citation Collection Notices

As you read this entry, many of our residents may have received a collection notice regarding one or more unpaid parking citations. We have received at least a hundred telephone calls, and our Records staff is quite taxed sorting out those notices that were received in error, and those that are legitimate. Just a few notes of caution that I’d like to pass along to help make things easier for all concerned. First, no member of the police department staff will void, cancel or otherwise dispose of a valid collection notice. We are also not authorized to make any payment arrangements or reduce the amount owed to the City. The staff at City Hall is under the same constraints. Persons who receive a collection notice and have concerns that it was issued in error should call the police department during regular business hours and our staff will research the citation. All payments are to be made either to the collection agency directly or at City Hall. The police department does not acce...
