Police Report: December 24-30

December 30:

3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 6:30 pm officers received a call of a theft that just occurred from Party Time Liquors. The complainant gave a description of the suspect. Officers canvassed the area and stopped a man who was positively identified as the individual who committed the theft. He was arrested and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

Arundel Road & 32nd Street: At about 11:50 pm officers were patrolling the area of the Queenstown Apartments when they observed a man riding a bicycle and acting suspiciously. The man was stopped for a field interview. During the interview the officers found him to be in possession of .6 grams of crack cocaine having a street value of $120. He was arrested, charged with possession of a CDS and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

December 29:

One Municipal Place: At about 12:05 pm officers on patrol observed an individual urinating in public. He was issued a criminal citation for the offense and d=sent on his way.

December 28:

3200 block Chillum Road: At about 7:10 am officers took a report of a hit and run motor vehicle collision. Their investigation revealed that an unknown vehicle struck the victim’s parked and unoccupied vehicle causing damage to the front driver’s side. A check of area was negative for the striking vehicle and/or any evidence with which to identify it.

4300 block of 30th Street: At about 9:20 am officers took a report of a stolen bicycle. The victim told the officers that he secured his bike with a chain and lock next to his residence. When he returned some time later he found that the chain had been cut and the bike stolen. A check of the area for witnesses and evidence proved negative.

December 27:

3300 block of Buchanan Street: At about 12:30 am officers responded for a domestic dispute. When the officers arrived they found an intoxicated male having an argument with his wife. The wife called police because the husband’s verbal abuse usually turned to physical abuse when he was drunk. The officers advised the wife of her options on how to obtain a protection/stay away order from a District Court Commissioner. The husband elected to voluntarily leave the premises for the evening. Since no crime had been committed the husband was allowed to leave on his own. About an hour and a half later the officers received a priority call for a violent domestic assault in progress at the same address. The couple’s daughter called and told police that her father had returned and was physically assaulting her mother. When the officers arrived they observed injuries to the mother consistent with being assaulted by the father. He was immediately arrested for domestic assault and removed from the home. The mother’s injuries were not serious or life threatening. The father was transported to District I for processing and subsequently delivered to the custody of DOC.

3000 block Queens Chapel Road: At about 9:45 pm officers investigated a single vehicle motor vehicle crash. The investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed for the road and weather conditions (light rain, wet road) and lost control. The vehicle spun and rolled over landing back on its wheels after striking a steel light pole and a pedestrian crossing signal. Miraculously all three occupants walked away from the crash uninjured. The driver of the vehicle was issued several traffic citations including negligent driving. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

December 26:

4500 block of 29th Street: At about 9:45 pm officers responded for the report of two suspicious individuals through vehicle windows. When the officers arrived they found and stopped both individuals for a field interview. During the interview the officers discovered that one of the individuals had an outstanding warrant through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Department for failure to appear and trespassing. He was placed under arrest and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. The second individual was sent on her way without further incident.

December 25:

2500 block of Chillum Road: At about 11:45 pm an injured deer was humanely put down after suffering serious injuries in a collision with a motor vehicle. Prince George's County Animal control was notified and advised that they would remove the deer.

3300 block of Chillum Road: At about 12:45 am officers were contacted by DC police regarding a 1st Degree assault that occurred in Mount Rainier. Investigation revealed that the injured person had been assaulted in the City and dropped off by person(s) unknown in front of Providence Hospital. No further details of the crime were available at the time of the report. Prince George's County Police detectives were notified and will be following up on the incident.

December 24:

One Municipal Place: At about 7:50 am officers observed a man consuming an alcoholic beverage in a public place. He was cited for the violation and sent on his way without further incident.

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi

Police Report: June 9-10

June 9th : 2500 block of Allison Street : At about 1 pm officers took a report of a citizen robbery . The victim told the officers and PGPD robbery detectives that she arrived to meet a client when she was approached by two black males. One of the men approached her from the front; the second came up behind her and placed her in a head lock. The second man demanded the keys to her gold 2005 Honda Accord (MD tags 9FA Y36). The victim complied and the two got into her car and fled the scene. The victim described her assailants as black males about 19-20 years of age. The first man was about 5’8” tall with shoulder length dreadlocks and was wearing a white t-shirt, long jean shorts, white socks and tennis shoes. The second man was about 5’10” tall, also had shoulder length dreadlocks and was wearing a white navy hat. The officers also discovered a white 2004 Chevrolet Express van that is believed to have been driven to the scene by the two suspects. A check of the vehicle’s registration

Boston Marathon/West, Texas Spam Campaigns

There is a new spam campaign in circulation using the Boston Marathon bombings that occurred on April 15, 2013 as a lure. Users are sent an e-mail encouraging them to a watch a video of the explosion. When the user clicks on the enclosed link to watch the video malware is installed on the user’s computer.   The following URL patterns have been found in these e-mails: http://[IP-address]/boston.html   http://[IP-address]/news.html   When the user clicks on one of the links the Kehlios worm is installed on the user’s system which has the capacity to send spam; carry out Distributed Denial of Service Attacks; and steal online currency such as bitcoins. Most major anti-virus vendors have signatures for detecting this malware so users should keep their antivirus programs up-to-date.   In addition to the Boston Marathon spam campaign, a West, Texas plant explosion spam campaign has also sprung up.
