Police Report: December 16-19

December 16:

2500 block of 25th Street: At about 10:30 am officers took a report of a motor vehicle theft. The victim reported that sometime during the previous evening person(s) stole her black 2003 Chevy Tahoe with Maryland tags 774M535 that had been parked at her residence. A canvass of the area for evidence and/or witnesses was negative.

December 17:

4500 block of 32nd Street: At about 10:50 am officers responded for an unknown trouble call. When the officers arrived they found two women (mother and daughter) engaged in a heated argument with a man who was their husband/father. Once the officers got the argument under control they learned that the father had forced entry into the residence through a bathroom window and attempted to leave with various items. The husband/father had a protective/stay away court order placed against him on December 10th and knew he was not to return to the property. He was arrested for violation of the court order and was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

4200 block of Russell Avenue: At about 7 pm officers responded for a burglary in progress. When the officers arrived they saw a black male running towards the basement area of the apartment building. They tried to get into the building but were unsuccessful because of a broken key lock. By the time they were able to get inside the suspect had made good his escape from the building. Officers from Bladensburg PD and Hyattsville PD responded to help search the area for the suspect to no avail. The victim/resident was not home at the time of the crime so it is unknown what, if anything was taken from the apartment. On call maintenance was notified and responded to repair and secure the victim’s door. The officers’ contact information was left on scene for victim upon his/her return. Follow-up pending.

December 18:

2300 block of Varnum Street (7-11 store): At about 1:30 am officers responded for a silent hold up alarm. When the officers arrived they found that a misdemeanor theft had occurred and not a robbery. The alarm was mistakenly activated by an anxious employee. The employee told the officers that two black males described as 5’10” tall and heavy set entered the store, went behind the counter and stole a quantity of cigarettes from the display racks. The two suspects then left the store, got into a small compact vehicle that was red and silver in color and fled the area in an unknown direction. A canvass of the area for the vehicle and suspects was negative.

3300 block of Buchanan Street: At about 9 am officers took a report of a missing 16 year old juvenile. The child has a habitual runaway record and ran away once again due to disciplinary issues with her parents. A lookout for the juvenile was broadcast to neighboring police agencies and her information was entered into the national missing persons database.

3100 block of Upshur Street: At about 2:30 pm officers responded for the report of an animal bite. The victim reported that on December 6th at about 5 pm she was bitten by a brown dog running loose in the area. The officers filed a County Animal Bite report and Animal Control was notified.

3200 block of Chillum Road: At about 3:30 pm officers responded for the report of a suspicious male. The complainant told the officers that she was concerned that the man was in the area stalking her daughter. She also said that she had had prior dealings with him. The officers located the man in question and cautioned him not to return to the area or make contact with complainant or her daughter. The officers sent him on his way after obtaining his contact information.

December 19:

4500 block of 29th Street: At about 5 am officers responded for a theft from auto. The victim told the officers that he walked outside of his residence to where his vehicle was parked and saw that the car’s parking lights were on. He then noticed that there was an unauthorized individual inside the vehicle rummaging through the interior. When this individual saw the victim, he got out of the car began walking east on 29th Street towards Taylor. The officers canvassed the area for the individual with negative results. The victim said that he did not notice anything missing from his vehicle and was advised to contact MRPD if any property is found to be missing /stolen at later time. The individual is described as a white Hispanic male, 5’9” tall wearing a black hat, black coat, and blue jeans.

Crime Prevention Tip: Car Alarms

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage. So, the next time you come home for the night and start to put your keys away think of this: Put your car keys beside your bed when you retire for the night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone tries to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, within a few se...
