Police Report: February 25-27

February 25th : 3200 block of Varnum Street : Burglary - 1:30 pm. Officers responded for the report of a burglary at a vacant house. The officers learned that the residents had voluntarily moved out of the house after being served with an eviction notice on February 23rd. When they returned to gather more of their personal items they discovered that the back door had been forced open and the window air conditioners and an upright freezer had been stolen from inside. The victim’s told the officers that they suspected several of their former guests were involved in the theft. An investigation is ongoing. 4200 block of Russell Avenue : Vandalism - 11:30 pm. Officers spoke with a resident who told them that he left his apartment around 6 pm and returned at 11:15 pm. When he got home he discovered that someone had entered the apartment and destroyed his blinds, some drywall and stained his sink. He said that he believes his former girlfriend came back to the apartment and did the dama

Hazardous Wind Advisory

'Hazardous' winds with gusts up to 60 mph are expected across the area this afternoon (February 25th) and evening, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). The NWS warns the winds could cause property damage and has issued a high wind warning for between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The Post's Capital Weather Gang reports the winds could down trees and cause power outages. Already, some 5,000 customers are in the dark in the D.C. area. Property in outdoor areas should be secured. Before the strongest winds arrive, the Capital Weather Gang says there is a slight risk of severe storms today as a cold front passes over the area.

Police Report: February 24

4200 block of Russell Avenue : Traffic – 8:20 am. Officers stopped a vehicle for having expired tags. The driver was issued several traffic citations, the tags were seized for return to MVA and the vehicle was impounded. 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : Warrant arrest – 10:30 am. Officers on patrol stopped to investigate two men who were drinking alcoholic beverages in public. Their investigation revealed that one of the men had an open arrest warrant through Charles County for theft. He was arrested on the warrant and a Charles County Sheriff’s Deputy responded and took custody of him. Both men were issued criminal citations for the alcohol violation.

Police Report: February 23

3300 block of Chillum Road : Narcotics arrest – 12:05 pm. Officers responded for the report of suspicious persons. When the officers arrived they located two subjects hiding behind a wall smoking what appeared to be cigarettes. When the officers approached the two they detected a strong odor of PCP. Further investigation revealed that one of the individuals was under the influence of PCP. A search of this individual revealed that he was in possession of several cigarettes laced with PCP. He was arrested for possession of the CDS and transported to Washington Adventist Hospital for a medical evaluation. Once he was released from the hospital he was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 4000 block of 34th Street : Theft – 5:35 pm. The victim told the officers that a subject described as a black male with shoulder length dreds, 6’2” tall, 220 lbs., wearing foam posit Nike shoes, a black t-shirt and jeans came into the store and asked if they sold pork chops. February 21st : 3700 block of 36th Street : Theft from auto - 9:05 am. The victim/owner told officers that sometime between February 19th at 11 pm and February 20th at 8 am someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole several items of personal property. 4400 block of 30th Street : Residential burglary - 3:15 pm. The homeowner told officers that sometime between 11 am and 3:15 pm someone broke into his home and stole a laptop computer from the kitchen table. The officers determined that the suspects gained entry into the home by breaking a window out of a rear door. February 22nd : 3200 block of Upshur Street : Stolen auto - 9:15 am. Officers responded for the report of a stolen vehicle that had just occurred. The victim/owner told the officers that she left her vehicle running and unlocked while retrieving a personal item from her residence. February 18th : 3800 block of 31st Street : Theft from auto – 7:20 am. The owner of a 2005 Chrysler 300 told officers that she forgot to lock her vehicle and when she returned for it she discovered that several items had been stolen from inside. 2400 block of Varnum Street : Warrant arrest – 11 am. Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for failing to appear in court on a charge of driving without a license. She was issued several state citations, arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 4600 block of Rainier Avenue : Residential burglary – 1 pm. Officers responded for the report of an activated residential alarm. When officers arrived on the scene they found a front window ajar. Police Report: February 17-18

February 17 : 4100 block of 29th Street : Vandalism to auto - 9:10 am. The victim/owner told the officers that sometime between 5 pm on the 16th and the time of the report someone smashed out one of the windows to her vehicle. The interior was ransacked but nothing was found missing. 2900 block of Arundel Road : Warrant arrest - 9:15 am. Officers investigating a broken down vehicle learned that the registered owner had an open arrest warrant through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office for failure to pay child support. A short time later the owner arrived on the scene and was arrested on the warrant. He was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 4400 block of 30th Street : Theft from auto - 9:15 am. The victim/owner told the officers that sometime between 8 pm on the 16th and 9:15 this morning someone broke into his vehicle and stole a GPS unit and a stereo radio. 4300 block of Kaywood Drive : Suspicious persons - 3:15 pm. 3200 block of Chillum Road : EPS - 7:45 am. Officers received a call for a disorderly individual. Upon further investigation the officers found grounds to believe the subject needed medical assistance and completed a petition for an emergency evaluation. Officers then transported the individual to a local hospital where he was turned over to medical staff for treatment and evaluation. 4300 block of 28th Place : Traffic - 12:00 pm. Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle and the driver were in violation of multiple traffic laws to include no insurance and a pick up order on the license plates. The vehicle was impounded and the driver issued several state traffic citations. 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : Warrant arrest - 1:15 pm. Officers responded for the report of several suspicious individuals loitering in the area. When they arrived they dispersed several of the individuals, however one of them was found to have

3200 block of Arundel Road : Vandalism to auto – 6 pm. The owner of a 2008 Ford F250 van showed officers where someone broke a door lock on his truck. Nothing was stolen from the vehicle and no evidence/witnesses were identified. 3300 block of Buchanan Street : Vehicle impound – 9:35 am. Officers impounded a 1997 Nissan Sentra for blocking a driveway. The officers also discovered that the tags displayed on the vehicle were issued to another vehicle. 3300 block of Buchanan Street : Warrant arrest – 7:30 pm. Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County. He was issued the appropriate traffic citations, arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

Police Report: February 14

4100 block of 31st Street : Attempt stolen auto – 11 am. The owner of a 2008 Chrysler P/T Cruiser told officers that when she went to get into her vehicle she noticed that someone had damaged the driver’s side door lock and the ignition in an apparent attempt to steal the car. No evidence or witnesses were identified. 4100 block of Rainier Avenue : Residential burglary – 2:25 pm. Officers responded for the report of a residential burglary. The officers spoke with the homeowner and determined that someone threw a brick through a rear window to gain entry into the home. Once inside the suspects stole several pieces of jewelry before fleeing the area. No evidence was recovered at the scene. 3200 block of Perry Street : Residential burglary – 2:30 pm. Officers responded for the report of an activated residential alarm. When officers arrived they determined that someone had broken into the home through the front door. Police Report: February 11-13

February 11th : 3200 block of Chillum Road : Attempt rape – 10:45 am. Officers spoke with the victim who stated that she confronted her long time boyfriend over his marital status. A verbal argument ensued resulting in the boyfriend leaving the apartment. The victim said she went to take a shower and when she got out of the shower she was confronted by the boyfriend who attempted to engage in sexual intercourse. He was unsuccessful and fled the apartment. While the victim was being interviewed the boyfriend returned to the scene and officers detained him for questioning. PGPD detectives were called to assist and they requested that both the victim and the boyfriend be transported to their station to be interviewed. At that point the victim refused to cooperate any further stating she would contact detectives at a later time. 2500 block of Arundel Road : Recovered stolen auto – 12:40 pm. Police Report: February 10

3200 block of Shepherd Street : Attempt citizen robbery – 9:45 am. While walking to school a student was approached by two suspects who blocked his path and demanded that he hand over his money. The student didn’t comply and both suspects walked away when a parent approached. MRPD obtained a description of the suspects and searched the area. Officers were able to locate and detain two individuals in the 3700 block of Shepherd Street who matched the suspects’ descriptions. The victim and his father responded and the child positively identified both individuals as the two that tried to rob him. During the course of the investigation, officers identified a second student who had also been accosted on his way to school. He also was able to positively identify both suspects. Both suspects were arrested and charged with attempted robbery. One was an adult and he was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. February 9th : 4700 block of 27th Street : Identity theft – 9am. A gentleman called to report that while checking his accounts on line he discovered that someone had opened a line of credit using his information and made several unauthorized purchases. Officers documented the crime and turned the case over to PGPD’s financial crimes units for a follow-up investigation. 4200 block of Russell Avenue : Theft from auto – 9:10 am. The owner of a 1998 Ford Explorer (Maryland tag 21993M) reported that when he came out to his vehicle this morning he discovered that someone had stolen the rear tag. 4200 block of Russell Avenue : Vehicle impound - 9 pm. Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle’s registration was suspended and there was an MVA pickup order on the tags. 3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue : Hit and run collision - 10:05 am. Officers spoke with the complaint who works for Waste Management. He stated that as he was picking up trash a gray four door Acura possibly struck the truck as it was trying to drive around it. The driver of the Acura fled the scene and there did not appear to be any damage to the truck. Queens Chapel Road & Chillum Road : Traffic - 10:05 pm. Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle’s registration was suspended and there was an MVA pick-up order on the tags. The driver was issued several citations, the tags were seized for return to MVA and the vehicle was impounded.

Police Report: February 7-8

February 7th : Chillum Road & Queens Chapel Road : Assault - 7:05 pm. Officers responded for the report of a man chasing another man with a knife. The officers searched the area and detained a suspect who fit the description of the man with the knife. During their search the officers also learned that PGPD officers were searching for a man who assaulted a victim with a hammer and who also happened to fit the description of the man with the knife. The man was positively identified as the assailant in PGPD’s case. He was arrested and turned over to PGPD for charges and disposition. February 8th (early morning) : 3200 block of Chillum Road : Warrant arrest - 12:20 am. Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver had an open warrant through Prince George’s County for failure to appear in court for driving on a suspended driver’s license. February 4th : 3800 block of 34th Street : Drinking in public – 5:05 pm. Officers discovered four individuals consuming alcoholic beverages inside a parked motor vehicle. All four were issued criminal citations for the violation and sent on their way. February 5th : 3100 block of Bunker Hill Road : Theft from auto – 1 pm. The owner of 2004 Nissan Maxima reported that someone stole the rear tag off her vehicle (Maryland tag MNT377). 3300 block of Chillum Road : Theft from auto – 11:50 pm. The owner of a 2007 Hyundai Sonata reported that someone stole the rear tag off her vehicle (Maryland 9DGT09). February 6th : 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : Assault – 12:20 am. Officers responded to a possible domestic assault in progress. When they arrived they located a man suffering from injuries to his face, legs and hands. 3249 Rhode Island Avenue : Warrant arrest – 6 pm. A man came into the police station and told officers that he wanted to surrender on an open arrest warrant. The officers confirmed that there was an open arrest warrant for the man through Prince George’s County for failing to appear in court on traffic charges. Police Report: February 2-3

February 2nd : 2700 block of Queens Chapel Road : Unauthorized use of a M/V - 6:00pm. Officers conducted a follow up to the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle reported on February 1st at 10 pm. The mother of the juvenile told the officers that her son returned her vehicle and she did not wish to pursue charges against him. 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : Fight - 2:43 pm. A woman came into the police station to report that her son was involved in a fight with another juvenile after school. The fight occurred at their normal bus stop after they got off the school bus. The incident is considered a school incident and was referred to school authorities for their intervention. February 3rd (early morning) : 2700 block of Queens Chapel Road : Warrant arrest - 4:45 am. Officers stopped a vehicle for speeding and running a stop sign. 2700 block of Queens Chapel Road : Unauthorized use of a M/V – 10 pm. The mother of a 15-year old juvenile reported that her son left the house to visit friends. She later discovered that her son took her car without her permission. Officers were unable to locate either the son or the car at several of his friends’ homes. The mother also told officers that this was not the first time her son took the car without her permission. The vehicle was entered into NCIC stolen vehicle files.

Police Report: January 31

4600 block of 29th Street : Vehicle impound – 10:45 am. Officers impounded an unregistered white 1994 Ford van for displaying tags issued to another vehicle. 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : Citizen armed robbery – 8:50 pm. The victim told officers that she had parked her vehicle and in so doing observed several people walking about the area. She walked to the front entry door of her residence as she talked with a friend on her cell phone. Once she entered the foyer she was accosted from behind by a man armed with a black semi automatic handgun. The suspect robbed her of the bags she was carrying and her cell phone and fled the area towards Buchanan Street and Queens Chapel Road. Officers notified all surrounding police agencies of the robbery and a lookout for the suspect was broadcast to all. A search of the area for the suspect proved negative. Members of the PGPD robbery suppression team assisted with the search and robbery detectives from PGPD District I responded to assume
