Police Report: February 10

3200 block of Shepherd Street: Attempt citizen robbery – 9:45 am. While walking to school a student was approached by two suspects who blocked his path and demanded that he hand over his money. The student didn’t comply and both suspects walked away when a parent approached. MRPD obtained a description of the suspects and searched the area. Officers were able to locate and detain two individuals in the 3700 block of Shepherd Street who matched the suspects’ descriptions. The victim and his father responded and the child positively identified both individuals as the two that tried to rob him. During the course of the investigation, officers identified a second student who had also been accosted on his way to school. He also was able to positively identify both suspects. Both suspects were arrested and charged with attempted robbery. One was an adult and he was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. The other was a juvenile and he was charged via a juvenile petition and released to the custody of his parents.

2800 block of Hamilton Street – Hyattsville: Mutual aid, citizen robbery – 8 pm. Officers from Hyattsville City PD requested MRPD assistance in searching for two suspects that had just robbed a citizen in Hyattsville. HPD officers advised that they were in a foot chase with two suspects and were headed towards Queens Chapel Road and Mount Rainier. Officers from both agencies converged on the area behind Lee's Restaurant were they were able to catch and detain both suspects. The victim was brought to the scene of the apprehension and positively identified the two as the ones who robbed him. He was turned over to HPD officers for disposition.
